### "One of the Most Streamlined EMR Systems I’ve Used"

May 10, 2026

5.0

Overall, my experience with athenaOne was very positive. The platform supported efficient patient workflow management and helped simplify many day-to-day administrative and clinical tasks. Compared to other EMR systems I have worked with, athenaOne felt modern, organized, and easier to navigate, which contributed to a smoother experience for both staff and providers.

Pros

athenaOne provided an intuitive and efficient workflow that made daily clinical operations feel more streamlined compared to other EMR systems I have used. The interface was user-friendly, appointment scheduling and patient management were organized well, and the platform helped improve communication and workflow efficiency within the practice. I also appreciated the overall responsiveness and accessibility of important patient information throughout the system.

Cons

Some workflows and customization options could require additional training or adjustment depending on the needs of the practice. Certain updates or workflow changes occasionally created a learning curve for staff members transitioning between processes.

### "Don’t wasn’t your time any longer! AthenaOne is where it’s AT!!"

April 14, 2026

5.0

Athena One is the reason my mental and physical health is thriving again because it notifies me of all appointments, reminds me of all testing needing done and results, and keeps it all organized for bigger situations. Such as important medical appointments for more serious issues.

Pros

Athena One never fails to notify me of my appointment reminders, remind me to do the appointment scheduling necessary with user interface and I have never encountered any bugs and issues. It’s the best option and value for the money with excellent security and 24/7 customer support.

Cons

That I didn’t discover it before wasting time using different appointment managing tools with little to no security regarding my information.

Because Patient Now did not send notifications, they did not reach out to me to do mental Health check ins and they were so disorganized and unattentive, they called me the wrong name for 3 months at appointment scheduling therefore my paperwork was never correct.

### "Healthcare software"

April 2, 2026

3.0

Overall, for being a small business, we did not have a good experience. For the price you are paying, you should be able to get ahold of someone from every department, not have to use a middle man.

Pros

I liked that Athena included everything you would need in the software. It was not the simple version, you were able to do everything from the same software.

Cons

I did not like how athena outsourced quite a bit. Billing was outsourced, so trying to get anything answered on that in was a nightmare.

### "Athena One"

November 13, 2025

2.0

Overall it is not a horrible EMR, it does have a lot of features that other EMRs do not have. Athena One is expensive, they take over 7% of all the money brought into the practice.

Pros

Athena does have all the bells and whistles for a private practice EMR. It has features for running reports, creating you own reports, care management features, and able to interface with other companies easily.

Cons

If you have a problem you need to solve or you need help with any of the features Athena offers you have to create a case with the CSC. The CSC is not helpful, asking one question takes anywhere from 10-30 min to solve if it gets solved, a lot of the times they have to escalate it to the internal team and get back with you in 7-10 days. Also all of the CSC is hired over seas so their English is horrible and half the time you cant understand what they are saying.

### "Good but expensive EMR/Practice management software"

December 1, 2025

4.0

Overall, AthenaOne has been a solid EMR for daily clinical use. It improves organization, streamlines communication, and supports consistent documentation, even though the learning curve and occasional workflow inefficiencies require some adjustment.

Pros

AthenaOne offers strong clinical workflows and helpful automation for routine tasks. The integrated scheduling, charting, and billing features work together smoothly, which reduces administrative burden and keeps patient visits moving efficiently.

Cons

Some parts of the interface can feel cluttered, and certain tasks take more clicks than expected. Reporting tools are powerful but not always intuitive, so it can take time to learn how to generate the data you need. Also, it's expensive!

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing athenaOne

it was the cadillac of EMRs for private practitioners, it wasn't as expensive when volumes were lower, but now that we've grown it is very expensive.

### "athenaOne for the help"

April 5, 2026

4.0

AthenaOne has made managing my practice so much smoother and more efficient. I truly appreciate how it helps both my team and my patients.

Pros

I've been using athenaOne for a few months now, and I have to say, it's made a world of difference in how I manage my practice. One of the standout features for me has been the automated billing. It's such a time-saver! I no longer have to stress over the small details or chase down payments. Everything is handled smoothly, and I can focus more on my patients instead of paperwork. Another highlight has been the claims management feature. It keeps everything organized and helps minimize any errors. I appreciate that I get regular updates, which gives me peace of mind.

Cons

I did run into some frustrating moments, especially when it came to customer support. When I had a question or needed help, the response time was slower than I expected, which made things a bit stressful. Overall, while I appreciate the functionality of athenaOne, I just wish their customer service could keep up with the rest of the platform.

### "Comprehensive and Reliable Practice Management Solution"

April 13, 2026

5.0

Overall, my experience with athenaOne has been positive. It’s a reliable platform that helps streamline daily operations and improve efficiency. Once familiar with the system, it becomes a very useful tool for managing both scheduling and patient data.

Pros

athenaOne offers a strong all-in-one solution for managing scheduling, patient information, and workflows. The appointment scheduling and reminders are especially helpful, and the system keeps everything organized in one place.

Cons

The system can take some time to learn initially, and pricing may be a bit high for smaller practices. Customer support can also be slow at times.

### "Powerful platform with some minor drawbacks"

February 26, 2026

4.0

My overall experience with athenaOne has been positive, especially in terms of having everything integrated into one system. Managing scheduling, electronic health records, billing, and patient communication is nice. Patients are not as fond of it.

Pros

Combines scheduling, medical records, billing, and patient communication in one system, which can streamline workflows.

Cons

Messaging notifications can get dropped and document capture can be hit or miss when it's lagging. Also the learning curve is steep, and it's pricey.

### "A user-friendly Patient Portal with minor drawbacks"

December 20, 2025

5.0

My family primary doctor that works at Family Healthcare Associates uses the "Catalyst Physician Group Athena Patient Portal". During my time with them, Family Healthcare associates has used a lot of other Patient Portals, and as a patient, I can say that I do prefer this Athena Patient Portal.

Pros

I enjoyed the simplicity of the interface, it doesn't feel overwhelming and it's clear options of "Home, Appointment, Billing & Payments, Messages, My Health and Test Results" make it very accessible even for people that have difficultly using/understanding technology, like my mom. Sending and receiving messages was simple, but I would appreciate if it went straight to my phone messages. Overall, I have not encounter any bugs or issues and it makes things like paying bills very easy. It's also convenient that test results and medical records(including shot record) is accessible in one system

Cons

One thing I dislike about athenaOne it how it does not have default Multifactor Authentication, for a health service that contains sensitive medical information this feels necessary. However, there is an option in settings that allows you to enable, still it does feel a little tedious. Furthermore, the initial setup process at first was confusing, however, it was still manageable.

### "Awful. Avoid this company."

October 22, 2025

1.0

Awful. They do not follow up on claims and put claims on hold. The worst thing is that they do not forward correspondence to you from CBE from Medicare trying to recover overcharges. As a result, I did not know what was going on and suddenly got hit with a $6,000 bill from the Treasury Department. This happened twice to me. The CBE people told me that it happens often with Athenahealth. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! YOU WILL LOSE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS !!!

Pros

The practice management software is fairly good. It is not as fancy or slick as a lot of other programs but this probably allows it to function more quickly over slower internet connections.

Cons

Horrible billing. Holding claims. Never following up on claims and then just stating that it's not their responsibility. They do not forward communications that the Medicare auditors and recovery agencies send to the Athena billing address in Maine. This is a recurring problem.

### "athenaOne Simplified Documentation"

February 2, 2026

5.0

Overall, my experience with athenaOne has been positive. It supports efficient clinical workflows and centralizes key functions, though there is room for improvement in usability and customization.

Pros

I like how athenaOne centralizes patient information and simplifies documentation, scheduling, and billing in one platform.

Cons

Some workflows feel overly complex and require too many clicks to complete simple tasks. The system can be slow at times.

### "Don't Use Athena One"

July 8, 2025

1.0

Terrible. Waste of time. Unable to solve problems in a timely manner. EMR for PCPs-not specialists. Changed our coding without notification or permission and made it worse. Their reply-We'll take responsibility---what does that mean? You will pay the fees?

Pros

This EMR is good for PCPs. That's it!

Cons

They take forever to fix issues-if they can. We signed up for their billing service-Total waste of time and their "billing experts" don't have experience with non PCP billing. We've asked for a rep change-which they don't do. Their reps are "lip-service". Major waste of time and money. Seek an EMR that really specializes in what you do---and same for any billing service. Their patient follow up software is mediocre as well as their "bells and whistles". You can run hundreds of reports-but when the software doesn't help in your dx or tx selection, or getting paid-----the reports are worthless. Am in the process of leaving them. I suggest you don't use, or leave.

### "AthenaOne Provider Review"

October 30, 2025

5.0

My overall experience with AthenaOne has been fantastic. The ease of use for the providers and customers makes this a medical charting system that is wonderful for small business owners and customers alike.

Pros

Appointment scheduling and user interface is of the highest quality with this product. I appreciate the efficiency of improvements and how quick & easy it is for customers to utilize the online version of the appointment scheduling and the customer support that is offered is fantastic.

Cons

At times, the bugs and issues with website improvements can be rather cumbersome. At times, it did take quite a bit of time for the bugs and issues to be rectified.

### "Ehr with lots of features. "

April 3, 2026

3.0

Ehr with a lot of features, however it is time consuming to use and set up. It does allow for submitting claims easily.

Pros

Highly customizable to your needs. The macros feature is create for routine tasks. The template creation is great.

Cons

Has great features but they are complex to implement (such as coding templates). It is also very structured and only one task can be completed at a time, which is time consuming.

### "My perspective: Thankful for Athena"

February 9, 2025

5.0

We have been weith Athena one for two years, and I get flyers and calls from other EMRs all of the time. I realize that I have options, but why would I change? All of my needs are met with Athena. There is a community in the Success Center where i can reach out to other providers, there are a host of resources in always learning new shortcuts and they are frequently launching new updates and ways to streamline processes. I would say that the billing crisis we found ourselves in a previous broken system could not have resolved without our coming on board and using Athena's aggressive and thorough processes. I am also thankful to Athena, as they introduced to me a biller and allowed a connection for a biller for the tasks I do not have time to devote to myself. We could not have survived our 9 months period of no deposits without Athena.

Pros

Love love Athena! Deep scrubbing of claims, good customer success methods for solutions when there are questions, wonderful client success manager. On the forefront of being innovative with solutions and tools.

Cons

Cannot think of a issue. The only drawback is the process of changing data from one system to another, but with any EMR, when a practice makes such a change of data -- it is time consuming, but this would be with any practice. I am thankful that the data moving occurred early on in our clinic's launch. I only had a year of data to move. I was very thankful for the ideas provided by Athena to make it as easy as possible.

### "Athena is just ok"

November 4, 2025

3.0

My experience has not been to positive. The cross permissions are a headache especially when we have non-clinical staff get clinical functions when not needed.

Pros

The system has major performance issues every week. The start complains about functions that do not work properly.

Cons

There are too many buggs that require fixing. Every week my practice experience major slowness and functionalities that do not work.

### "Simple but could get expensive"

August 9, 2025

4.0

AthenaOne is powerful and can seriously streamline your practice if you want one system for everything. It’s especially good for keeping billing on track and staying connected with patients. But… it’s not cheap, setup can be a pain, and the interface still makes you do more clicking than you’d like. Small practices especially need to weigh the cost against the convenience.

Pros

Enjoyed the simplicity of integration and implementation. EHR, billing, scheduling, patient portal… all connected so you’re not juggling multiple logins.

Cons

The pricing can get complicated. The more money your practice makes, the more they take. Not great if you’re a small shop.

### "Pitifully poor local office clerk and back office personel. "

July 10, 2025

1.0

Pros

Poor, the clerk at the front desk who took my information at the local Village medical location in scottsdale, az on the \[sensitive content hidden\] and via linda location is totally unprofessional as well as the back office at that location. They refused to correct my insurance card information they messed up and told me to fix it with my insurance ...medicare. My bill address name, guarantor name and person identified on the bill was somebody else.

Cons

I called your corporate billing, the local billing and went to the local office who inputted incorrectly my billing and insurance information. Each person told me to contact each other i.e. corporate said contact local billing...local billing said contact corporate billing, the local office where i had service said they dont have a billing department. I am totally upset with your local front desk and back office personel who treated me like crap!

Cons
