Comments: APS OnLine does a good job delivering enterprise-style HR software functionality to an SMB customer. However there's some complexity involved there and the price can move up quickly depending on the features you need.

Pros: Sophisticated configurability. Built-in payroll is a core offering. User-friendly touches throughout.

Cons: Separate portals for system administrators and employees. Lacks a news feed. More expensive than many other SMB-oriented competitors.

Pros: The Online program is easy to use, it does everything we need it to do, and it even calculates all taxes, etc. Would recommend to other companies.

Cons: The only thing it lackes is the time being logged in from our timeclock software. Everything has to be completed manually.

Pros: All of the figures are accurately depicted so I know exactly where my money goes. I am able to clearly see my statements as well as taxes.

Cons: I do not have any cons on the web version of the site. As for the phone application it can be difficult to link at first.

Overall we have been very pleased with the APS software.

Pros: Customer support is great. Fairly easy to use. I like that we can store documents like our Associate Manual on the system for employees to review.

Cons: It should not be so difficult to pull a Gross Wage report on employees. I would think that is a report that almost everyone needs from time to time. HR and benefits need to have more features available.

Overall: Reduce cost from ADP. Also a dedicated account representative that is familiar with our business.

Pros: I love the ability to manage benefits for employees. Goodbye to the paper lists and trying to track people down! Employees can select options via the "eselfserve" portal and I have all of my enrollment and opt-out information maintained in one spot.

Cons: By our own choice, we provide payroll options to our employees that make it difficult sometimes to manage when there are multiple options for one employee. It gets tricky and we sometimes have to add codes, but APS really strives to help us with these payroll complexities.

Pros: It has everything you need for payroll, time tracking, accruals and reports. Our hourly employees find it easy to log in and out. It allows for accruals of many different types of time (sick, vaca, personal leave, comp time, etc.) I can run payroll reports of my own design.

Overall: Tax filing, time tracking for employees, reporting. I spend little time dealing with payroll.

Pros: Easy to use. I can cut checks whenever needed, verify employment, print payroll reports, reprint check stubs and just about anything with just a few clicks.

Pros: Ease of use. Reports for everything. Any problem I have is quickly resolved by customer support, even when the problem is often my own doing .

Cons: Wish I could figure out rate of pay change report, but I bet it's there I just haven't found it.
I do find accruals to be a little confusIng, but that may be the way I set it up

Pros: APS is a growing business and their customer service and adaptability works well with our growing agency

Cons: APS has no plans to help clients with project management tracking of payroll-related costs, an increasing need for us.

Overall: Affordable alternative to the major payroll processing companies, that didn't charge us every time we had a request.

Pros: It's very simple to add the necessary columns that apply to each payroll run which is great. If there are no salary changes, payroll input is a breeze! This system also keeps track of payroll changes and you can enter an explanation about each change. There are also tons of reports to choose from for all types of scenarios. The payroll audit reports is very useful.

Cons: Sometimes making corrections doesn't seem as simple a task as it should be. It would also be nice to have a feature that lets you choose multiple employees when attaching a memo.

Overall: Additional HR features as well as ACA reporting capability. APS also does all the quarterly reporting and yearly W2s.

Pros: I like the reports fairly well. The import function for the hours is very nice. It is easy to post the transactions to the general ledger in our custom software from the reports from APS.

Cons: Not enough flexibility to set up what we want. I would like to be able to move the columns around after the import by clicking and dragging. Custom reports are often times difficult to extrapolate particular data.

Overall: Easy functionality, employees seem to be able to use it to request vacation, clock in and out, etc. Spend less time on the payroll duties.

Have worked with several systems - great value for what you get!

Pros: The people - the implementation and on-going support is great. System it self is fairly easy to navigate.

Cons: What we got wasn't always exactly what we were told during the sales presentation; would have preferred hands on training rather than watching someone "click" through the screens.

Pros: Interface, ease of use. Processing payroll is a breeze and the 2 step approval process ensures mistakes can be caught before finalizing.

Cons: Limits on creating/editing reports in-house. Pulling available reports is simple and quick, but any edits must be done through APS for a minimum charge. As a small nonprofit, capable of making the adjustments, it is not cost-effective to pay the fee .

Comments: Overall, it takes the grunt work out of processing payroll.

Pros: Very simple to navigate. Nice to have a place for employees to log in and view their information. Complex tax filings are handled for us.

Cons: Does not fully customize to create the level of detail we need on payroll journal entries. There are still some manual processes that must take place which we'd prefer to be automated.

Comments: Great option. more user-friendly than ADP or Paychex in my experience. Very easy to set up new employees.

Pros: Customer service is always available and very helpful. They are aware of potential needs for your company and make insightful suggestions to eliminate future problems.

Comments: I like the ease of the training as it is done in steps, which really helps you take it all in. I think the layout of the website could be a little more friendly as sometime you have to look around to find where data is located.

Pros: The ability to merge HR / Payroll / Insurance all into one system. They have a great training system.

Cons: There is no mobile app though you can log into their web site via mobile. The app would make it more friendly to use. At this time they can not import data from files to documents so that it is automatically populated, also the employee can only electronically sign the form but cannot add any information to the form.

Comments: The best part of the APS tool is their attention to customer service. Any problems there is someone available to help. APS makes time reporting and payroll easier for us - that's all we need. Great value.

Comments: We've been using APS for 2 years. It's easy to add employees, change their deductions and monitor their hours and PTO. Employees like the ease of a web-based timekeeping system. Customer service is always polite and very responsive.

Pros: Easy to use, changes update automatically. Web-based so employees at multiple sites can always access it to enter time or view paystubs. Customer service has been great.

Cons: Employees would like a little more access to update bank account information and deductions.

Recommendations to other buyers: Great value for a small company, it's easy to use and having an integrated payroll and time-keeping keeping system saves time and energy.

Comments: The mobile website could use some work. I would like to stay logged in, but whenever I do the screen stays blank. I would actually really like to have an app to log in and use my tough ID as my password. I do like the time card set up, that part of the website is nice. I also like how the scheduled time off shows up on my home screen. The accrual balance for my vacation is confusing though. I would like the accrual to show up on the first of the month, since we are supposed to get them on the first of the month, not in the middle of the month.

Comments: I love using APS. It is very user friendly. The support staff is very helpful as well. It didn't take me long to learn how to use the software. I have only had a few problems here & there and the staff was always able to help me. They are awesome.

Comments: I have used this software for 6 years. It is easy to maneuver through choices. Customer support has helped IMMEDIATELY when I had to call in. You are directed to your rep or someone right away. Have been approached by others to change. If it's not broken, don't fix it!!

Pros: It does an important job for us.

Cons: It takes a few times using it to understand where to find what I am looking for.

Overall: We are a small non-profit organization and cannot afford to have HR and payroll staff so I wear those hats as well as many others. Having APS manage our payroll system has helped us tremendously and makes me less worried we are missing something.

Pros: The customizable reports and vast array of features.

Cons: It isn't always intuitive which tab will have the option I'm looking for. For example, it took me a while to find "setup benefits" because it is under Admin.

Overall: Having the option to create customized reports has really been helpful and we couldn't ask for better customer support. The few times we have had issues, the team at APS has always been quick to help us resolve them.

Comments: We have worked with several different payroll companies in the past and were always looking for something that was less complicated. APS works great. The site and lay out is simple to use and easy to navigate. Being able to direct import our payroll information and review it makes completing payroll simple and less time consuming. We still have all of the other information and reports provided from other companies, but with out the head ache.

Pros: Breadth of functionality, ease of use

Cons: Having a QBO interface is available. It would be great if it could be automated as a result of the completion of the payroll run instead of having to push / pull it after completion.

Overall: From the sales process through contract to go live the team was nothing but professional and engaging. We have formed a great partnership with the team.

Pros: Payroll is so easy! Within 10 minutes it's done.

Cons: The reports section is difficult

Overall: The hardest part is the reports. Trying to figure out which one I need and getting the right information. And there are times when I can't get what I need and I'm never sure if it's because it's not available or I just don't know where to find it.

Comments: APS is a great company . Anytime I had a question about an employee, or making changes , there is always someone available to help . The support is great. The system for payroll is very user friendly . Need something changed you can. Just create your ticket , it is answered in a timely fashion , same day fix. I would highly recommend APS for your payroll service, great company and friendly people. I've used APS in the past years, this company has shown up, and grew tremendously offering better and better products to serve us the customer.

Comments: I use APS weekly for 55 employees and then biweekly for 140 employees. It's a very easy to use program. The customer service is outstanding. Our account representative is always very helpful and knowledgeable about any questions I may have. If she is not available when I need her I always have someone to talk to immediately that is able to help me with any need I may have. Overall, the experience is very enjoyable.

Comments: After about 6 months with APS we have no doubt it was the right move to leave ADP. Gone are the 45 minute wait times to speak with a random representative. With APS we have a designated rep and team who are accessible almost immediately. Our move was not only dictated by sub-quality of service, but as a non-profit, was also driven by cost. Our payroll costs were reduced by almost half. Every report type we conceivably need is included in the pricing, where as, some of these reports cost extra with our former provider of service. Staff are extremely satisfied with ease of access for the electronic time clock, as well as, ease of use with the employee portal. I did not give 5 stars across all categories as our company has a complex PTO program which has proven to be minor challenge for APS. No company is perfect, but I think they're close.

Cons: Even though a QBO extract can be created, currently it can't be created and automatically pushed to the QBO system I am using, it is a manual process.

Overall: From the sales process to company setup and ultimately support, the APS team has been an incredible experience and one of true partnership. They get the job done.

Pros: You've thought through the ways that I need to be flexible. Software is comprehensive.

Cons: I need a To-Do list (I know everyone's list is different) to walk me through steps. Videos are great but I don't have time to view a lot of videos. I need to learn fast.

Overall: As a Start-up business, I don't have time to manage all of the major "requirements" manually. I have to rely on great partners and established proven software to keep the train on the tracks. Stacey, Beth and others at APS have been exemplary in their support.

Comments: Great experience with software. We have had the software over 2 years now and started with only 100 users and now using is for payroll and human resource operations for over 175 employees. We use the application for finding job applicants as well. The software has allowed for onboarding new employees to go very smooth.

Cons: Functions required of administrators is increasingly complex.

Overall: Payroll systems have gotten increasingly complex - with new features, reporting requirements, documentation, etc. It is nice to have a payroll processing partner that allows a broker interface. We couldn't handle open enrollment and benefits administration without our broker working directly with our payroll company.

Recommendations to other buyers: Working with CPAs and Benefits Brokers is a good idea.

Comments: The one on one customer service is one of the main reasons our company switched after being with the former PR system for 15 years. The CSR are eager to help and are quick to respond to your needs. The software is user friendly not only from an administrator side but from the employee side. Comments: We've been with APS as long as I can remember now - they deliver the best value out of any of the other payroll options, as well as customizable solutions. Many companies have unique needs that may come up on individual payroll runs, and the reps are always helpful to solve your unique issues and provide fields for you when you need to enter data to. At one point a couple years ago we thought about moving to another company that had a newer user interface; after heavy research we realized APS really is THE very best solution. The other payroll services don't allow the multiple levels of user access like APS does (which was crucial for us), they couldn't make special fields for you, and things just couldn't be customized the way we needed; not to mention the price is much better. I highly recommend APS.

Overall: We switched our 80 employee weekly payroll to APS in January 2016. Out of 4 payrolls run they committed serious errors and omissions of details to us causing failed direct deposits, check numbers starting at 100 and uncashable at many paycheck cashing services, as well an a long list of more minor errors and overcharges. They refused to pay for the errors or refund the over $2000 we paid for implrmentation. This made January the highest cost payroll month in our 32 year history with more total errors in one month than in the prior ten years.

Overall: Recently converted to APS payroll service. We have only had one payroll run this far but it I went smoothly. It is very easy to use and hopefully much easier once we go live with Tome and Attendance

Pros: How easy it is to use.

Cons: Not able to re-print the employee W2 if they ask for one mid-year

Overall: So far I am liking what I can get out of the system and am happy to use it. Editing the time cards when someone forgets to clock in or out is really easy to use. Entering a new employee is also easy to do and to terminate them. I would like to see if we can pdf each paycheck stub so that I can email to employees instead of printing one for them.

Comments: There seems to be some redundancy between entering payroll and the benefit elections. I believe these are use for a safe guard but it would be nice if the employer was allowed to option to bypass or override this feature.

Pros: ease of use, great support and assistance setting up program. User friendly for employees. Less hands on work for payroll and management.

Cons: Would like to learn more about different parts of program, which APS did more online training or education.

Overall: Customer support replies quickly and questions and issues resolved in a timely manner. Great time clock program, easy to use for staff and payroll managers. Great value for the money.

Overall: I like the time clock feature and I think the price is reasonable. My complaints and issues would be the way APS exports to Quickbooks, and I also think the training could go into a little more detailed. Customer service has been very helpful and nice.

Cons: The administrator back end is sometimes hard to navigate and not always intuitive .

Overall: APS has been a great. They provide a TEAM of customer care reps for each account. They answer your questions quickly and courteously. I would recommend getting the HR console too.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make the administrative end easier to navigate and more intuitive. The areas to click located on the bottom of screen are hard to locate at times for new users. They are small and not very obvious unless you know to look at the bottom of the screen (i.e. during payroll processing and other set up features). Make the administrative end look more like the employee side.

Pros: Ease of access and entry of payroll

Cons: Identifying 1099 consultants by name and company name. I would also like to be able to print out a report when I enter a new employee for our employee file

Overall: Customer service is wonderful! We have a little disconnect with our 1099 consultants in that there is no way to enter company name (LLC) and the person associated with it so we can do a search either way when trying to locate someone in the employee list which requires me to keep a spreadsheet for cross reference. Other than that, we have been extremely happy with APS and have no reason to change.

Overall: I love APS!! Before we started using APS I did all the payroll. Because we did not have a payroll program on our computer I had to keep all records by hand. That meant keeping up with each persons payroll individually and doing all the quarterly reporting by hand. It does not sound like much but it was a very detailed thing to do. Now APS has taken it over and is doing all that for me! There are not enough words to say how much I appreciate them. Thank You!! Barbara

Overall: Very good system. Sometimes hard to get ahold of someone to help us with things, as we're new with this system. Have had some problems with exporting into Quickbooks. Other than that, we love the ease of use and the functionality of the APS payroll system
