**TL;DR:** _I picked the 6 best_ [_digital asset management software_](https://www.capterra.com/digital-asset-management-software/) _platforms based on 482 verified Capterra reviews from October 2024 to October 2026. I evaluated each on asset search, sharing and permissions, and ease of use._

Finding the right file takes too long when assets live in shared drives and inboxes. I analyzed 482 verified Capterra reviews to find the 6 best digital asset management software platforms for search, sharing, and ease of use.

Reviewers care most about ease of use and finding assets quickly. Their complaints center on cost, complexity, and search or interface quirks.

The six picks are Adobe Experience Manager, Box, Cloudinary, Dash, Kontainer, and MediaValet.

Products are listed alphabetically. Inclusion is based on the methodology at the bottom of this article.

Quick take

Dash has the highest rating at 4.82, though on 28 reviews, and Kontainer is the best-validated dedicated DAM, with 119 reviews at 4.77. Box has the largest review base (222) but is file storage and sharing first. Adobe Experience Manager suits large teams in the Adobe ecosystem willing to accept a steeper learning curve and higher cost, Cloudinary is built for developer-led media delivery, and MediaValet reviewers like its search and portals but rate it lowest at 4.40.

## The 6 best digital asset management software platforms at a glance

This digital asset management software comparison shows how all six picks rate on Capterra, based on verified reviews from October 2024 to October 2026.

| Product | Rating | Reviews analyzed | Best for | Starting price |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Adobe Experience Manager](https://www.capterra.com/p/142300/Adobe-Experience-Manager/) | 4.56/5 | 36 | Large teams in the Adobe ecosystem | Custom quote |
| [Box](https://www.capterra.com/p/148766/Box/) | 4.55/5 | 222 | Secure file sharing and permissions | $20/user/month, Business plan |
| [Cloudinary](https://www.capterra.com/p/135074/Cloudinary/) | 4.72/5 | 32 | Developer-led media delivery | $99/month, Plus plan |
| [Dash](https://www.capterra.com/p/214529/Dash/) | 4.82/5 | 28 | Small marketing teams on a budget | $109/month, Start-up plan |
| [Kontainer](https://www.capterra.com/p/143730/Kontainer/) | 4.77/5 | 119 | Brand portals and ease of use | From $500/month, Core |
| [MediaValet](https://www.capterra.com/p/124632/MediaValet/) | 4.40/5 | 45 | Search and branded portals | Custom quote |

## How I chose this list

To build this list, I selected products based on the following criteria:

- **Review volume:** Have at least 20 verified Capterra reviews in the last 24 months.

- **Rating floor:** Have an overall Capterra rating of 4.2 or higher, based on data from the last 24 months.

- **Category qualification:** Appear on Capterra Shortlist for digital asset management software (2026) and be used by reviewers to store, organize, search, or share digital assets such as images, video, and brand files.

Nine products are on Capterra Shortlist for this category. I excluded three, and the Methodology section explains why.

Test before you buy

Upload 20 of your own files with real names and tags, then time how long it takes a teammate to find 5 of them. Search was a top complaint for MediaValet (11 of 45 reviews) and Kontainer (12 of 119), so this test shows any gap quickly.

## 1\. [Adobe Experience Manager](https://www.capterra.com/p/142300/Adobe-Experience-Manager/): Best for Adobe teams

_Adobe Experience Manager Assets library showing searchable images, videos, and documents with metadata_

Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) ties Cloudinary for the highest functionality score on this list, 4.69, and has the lowest value score, 3.88. Its 36 reviewers split between small and very large organizations: 13 of 36 are at companies with 1 to 50 employees, and 9 are at companies with 5,001 or more.

It earns its place for teams that want assets, content, and web experiences managed in one platform, especially if they already work in Adobe Creative Cloud. Reviewers rate it 4.36 for ease of use, so budget time and technical help for setup. Capterra's AEM listing also covers the content management side, so some reviews discuss web publishing rather than the asset library.

**Why users like it:**

- Digital asset and content management in one platform came up in 10 of 36 reviews.

- Adobe Creative Cloud and ecosystem integration came up in 8 of 36 reviews.

**Key features:**

- **AI-powered content intelligence:** Tags and surfaces assets through AI-assisted search.

- **Centralized asset management:** Keeps assets, documents, and brand materials in one library.

- **Adobe Creative Cloud connections:** Links the asset library to Adobe design tools.

- **Security and rights management:** Controls who can access and reuse assets.

**Limitations to know:**

- Learning curve and complexity came up in 19 of 36 reviews, including the need for specialized developer resources.

- Cost came up in 13 of 36 reviews, and AEM's 3.88 value score is the lowest on this list.

**What a verified Capterra reviewer says:**

"What I like most about Adobe Experience Manager is how much it can handle in one platform. It makes managing content, documents, digital assets, and marketing materials much easier, especially for larger teams and more complex projects."

Jonathan Kolmetz, Chief Marketing Officer, All American Bonds and Insurance, September 2026

_**Bottom line:**_ _Cost and complexity are the trade-off, and smaller teams without developer support will likely find AEM heavier than they need._

One reviewer wrote:

"The learning curve was steep, and occasionally, minor updates arise that require specialized technical support, which can slow down our workflow."

Oliver Kim, Human Resources, Zayo group, April 2026

For Adobe-centered teams with the resources to configure it, its 4.69 functionality score makes it worth a demo. Comparing it with MediaValet? Read Capterra's [MediaValet vs. Adobe Experience Manager comparison](https://www.capterra.com/compare/124632-142300/MediaValet-vs-Adobe-Experience-Manager).

## 2\. [Box](https://www.capterra.com/p/148766/Box/): Best for secure file sharing and permissions

_Box folder view showing shared files, permissions, and collaboration options_

Box has the largest review base of any pick, 222 reviews at 4.55, which makes its numbers the most reliable in this article. Reviewers are spread across company sizes, from 1 to 10 employees (22 of 222) to 201 to 500 employees (50 of 222), and the most common titles are Owner, Project Manager, Manager, and Director.

Box is file storage and sharing first, with DAM features such as tagging, metadata, and version control layered on top. It fits teams that need to share assets securely with outside partners more than teams that need a visual brand library. Reviewers rate it 4.68 for ease of use and 4.34 for support.

**Why users like it:**

- File sharing and collaboration came up in 118 of 222 reviews.

- Security and permissions came up in 71 of 222 reviews.

**Key features:**

- **Box AI and integrations:** Adds AI document question-and-answer and connects to tools such as Microsoft Office, Slack, and Google Workspace.

**Limitations to know:**

- Pricing came up in 33 of 222 reviews, including small teams who find plan costs high.

- Slowness and sync problems came up in 34 of 222 reviews, especially with large files and folders.

**What a verified Capterra reviewer says:**

"What I like most about Box is how easy it is to securely store, organize, and share files with others. Collaboration is simple, version history is helpful when working on documents, and access permissions make it easy to control who can view or edit files."

April Vella, Loan Originator, Valley Mortgage Investments, September 2026

_**Bottom line:**_ _Box is not built around visual asset libraries, and pricing is the common complaint._

One small-team reviewer wrote:

"The pricing structure doesn't make sense for a small operation like ours."

Pritam Paud, Early Childhood Educator, Andonosari, August 2026

The Business plan starts at $20 per user per month, so confirm which tier unlocks the features you need. With 222 reviews and a 4.55 rating, Box is the best-validated pick for secure sharing. Weighing it against a dedicated DAM? See Capterra's [Kontainer vs. Box comparison](https://www.capterra.com/compare/143730-148766/Kontainer-vs-Box).

## 3\. [Cloudinary](https://www.capterra.com/p/135074/Cloudinary/): Best for developer-led media delivery

_Cloudinary media library showing images and videos with transformation and delivery options_

Cloudinary scores 4.72 overall from 32 reviews, with 4.78 for ease of use and 4.69 for functionality. Its reviewers skew technical, with developers, software engineers, and web developers alongside marketing managers, and 18 of 32 are at companies with 11 to 200 employees.

It is the pick when your assets are mostly images and video that need to be resized, optimized, and delivered to websites and apps through an API. Teams that want a brand portal and approval workflows should look at the other picks, since reviewers describe Cloudinary mainly as a media pipeline.

#### Trial/Free Version

- Free Trial
- Free Version

#### Device Compatibilty

**Why users like it:**

- Ease of use came up in 16 of 32 reviews.

- Automatic optimization, resizing, and transformation came up in 13 of 32 reviews.

**Key features:**

- **Automatic optimization:** Compresses media and converts formats for faster delivery.

- **Image and video transformations:** Resizes, crops, and adds overlays through URL parameters.

- **API and SDKs:** Connects the media library to websites and apps.

- **Free version:** Includes a free plan, with paid plans starting at $99 per month.

**Limitations to know:**

- Pricing at scale came up in 10 of 32 reviews, with costs rising for large media libraries.

- Learning curve for advanced features and transformations came up in 5 of 32 reviews. With only 32 reviews, treat this as a signal to confirm in a demo.

**What a verified Capterra reviewer says:**

"I love how easy Cloudinary makes it to upload and display images and videos on a website with a few API calls — the optimization features alone blew my website’s load times in half, with lightning-fast delivery over a CDN."

Eleandro Grancho, Software Developer, Deinsa Global, March 2025

_**Bottom line:**_ _Pricing is the watch-out, especially for large media libraries._

One engineer wrote:

"Pricing may catch up businesses with big media libraries, and there is a steep learning curve for advanced features such as transformations and API integrations."

Syed Furquan, Software Engineer, Mystery Mind IT Service, February 2025

The Plus plan costs $99 per month and Advanced costs $249 per month. For developer-led teams with image- and video-heavy sites, its 4.72 rating and 4.78 ease-of-use score make it a strong pick.

## 4\. [Dash](https://www.capterra.com/p/214529/Dash/): Best for small marketing teams on a budget

_Dash asset library showing tagged images, collections, and sharing options_

Dash has the highest rating on this list, 4.82, and the highest scores for ease of use (4.86) and customer support (4.85). Its 28 reviewers are mostly marketing and brand teams at midsize companies: 21 of 28 work at companies with 51 to 500 employees.

It is the pick when you want a simple, fast asset library with unlimited users and transparent pricing. With only 28 reviews, its numbers are the least validated of the six, so read the 4.82 as directional.

#### Trial/Free Version

- Free Trial
- Free Version

#### Device Compatibilty

**Why users like it:**

- Ease of use came up in 21 of 28 reviews.

- Search, tagging, and organization came up in 12 of 28 reviews.

**Key features:**

- **AI auto-tagging:** Tags assets automatically to speed up search.

- **Unlimited users:** Includes unlimited users on every plan.

- **Collections and sharing:** Shares assets with agencies and external partners.

- **Approvals and custom fields:** Reviews submitted assets and adds custom metadata.

**Limitations to know:**

- Plan limits on downloads and storage came up in 2 of 28 reviews. The Start-up plan includes up to 250 monthly downloads and 10GB of storage, with extra storage available for an added fee.

- Individual reviewers asked for folders within collections, download tracking for embed links, and more accurate auto-tagging. With only 28 reviews, treat these as signals to confirm in a demo.

**What a verified Capterra reviewer says:**

"What I like most about Dash is how it combines image/photo management with practical content workflows in one place. The learning curve is short, the UI is clean, and it’s easy to keep assets organized and reusable across design and social content."

Tomás Ródenas, CIO, Tex Athenea, February 2026

_**Bottom line:**_ _Dash reviews cluster in small and midsize teams, so confirm it scales before rolling it out to a large enterprise._

One reviewer shows how the download caps bite:

"I love how easy it is to share photos with those outside of your organisation but wish it didn't use up so many of our limited downloads!"

Emma Matthews, Social Media Assistant, REDA, August 2025

With a 4.85 support score and a transparent entry price, Dash is an easy product to pilot, though 28 reviews is a small base, so confirm fit in a trial.

## 5\. [Kontainer](https://www.capterra.com/p/143730/Kontainer/): Best for brand portals and ease of use

_Kontainer branded portal showing a tagged asset library with folder permissions_

Kontainer has the second-highest rating on this list, 4.77, on 119 reviews, which makes it the best-validated dedicated DAM here. Most reviewers work at companies with 51 to 500 employees (89 of 119), and 92 of 119 are based in Denmark.

It is the pick when you want a clean asset library with branded portals, folder-level permissions, and a vendor that reviewers say responds quickly. Because most reviewers are Nordic, check that support coverage and integrations fit your region and time zone.

#### Trial/Free Version

- **Download presets and image conversion:** Delivers assets in the right size and format.

- **PIM connection:** Links asset data to product information systems.

**Limitations to know:**

- Search and navigation issues came up in 12 of 119 reviews, including slower navigation in large libraries.

- Slow upload, download, and navigation speeds came up in 7 of 119 reviews.

**What a verified Capterra reviewer says:**

"I really like the clean, intuitive UI and how easy it is to customize everything to fit our brand. It’s fast even with large files, and features like smart albums, tags, and flexible metadata make it easy to structure things exactly how our team needs."

Rebeka Vodrazkova, Art Director, Capture One, March 2026

_**Bottom line:**_ _Plan tiers matter. Kontainer's Core plan starts at $500 per month with 50 user accounts and 100GB of storage._

One digital asset manager wrote:

"Upload and download speeds could be improved" while noting that challenges "have either been resolved with support from the Kontainer team or addressed through product updates."

Marian Refsgaard, Digital Asset Manager, Sindico Group, September 2026

With 119 reviews and a 4.77 rating, Kontainer is the best-validated dedicated DAM pick for small and midsize brand teams. Weighing it against MediaValet? See Capterra's [MediaValet vs. Kontainer comparison](https://www.capterra.com/compare/124632-143730/MediaValet-vs-Kontainer).

## 6\. MediaValet: Best for search and branded portals

_MediaValet library showing search results, categories, and a shared branded portal_

MediaValet has the lowest rating among the six, 4.40, though it clears the 4.2 floor, and reviewers compliment its search: search, organization, or tagging came up in 24 of 45 pros. Reviewers skew toward midsize organizations, with 20 of 45 at companies with 201 to 500 employees, in communications, marketing, and digital asset manager roles.

It is the pick when finding the right image fast is the daily problem and you want portals to share assets with partners. All 45 reviews in this dataset were written between December 2024 and September 2025, so the 2025 redesign is the main thing newer buyers should test in a demo.

**Why users like it:**

- Search, organization, and tagging came up in 24 of 45 reviews.

**Key features:**

- **Branded portals:** Shares assets with partners and external users through portals.

- **Metadata and tagging:** Organizes assets with categories, tags, and search filters.

- **Download templates:** Delivers assets in preset sizes and formats.

- **Approvals and permissions:** Controls access and routes new content for approval.

**Limitations to know:**

- Search results and finding assets came up in 11 of 45 reviews, including a complaint that new AI search changes made results less intuitive.

- Interface and redesign complaints came up in 8 of 45 reviews. With only 45 reviews, treat this as a signal to confirm in a demo.

**What a verified Capterra reviewer says:**

"I was recently testing out the search, and was actually pretty impressed at how well it pulled up findings that weren't related to tags. I could type in 'backpack' and get photos of people wearing backpacks-- far more advanced than I was expecting."

Andrea Gress, Communications Coordinator, Birds Canada, January 2025

_**Bottom line:**_ _The 2025 redesign is the trade-off, and pricing is not published on Capterra, so ask for a quote early._

One video editor wrote:

"The new redesign is a step backwards."

Chris Lohr, Senior Video Editor, Community Associations Institute, September 2025

If search and portals are your priority, MediaValet is worth a demo: 24 of 45 reviewers highlight search and organization, and support rates 4.50. Comparing it with Kontainer? Read Capterra's [MediaValet vs. Kontainer comparison](https://www.capterra.com/compare/124632-143730/MediaValet-vs-Kontainer).

## What should you look for in digital asset management software?

Picking digital asset management software comes down to more than a feature checklist. Here is what decided fit across the 482 reviews I read. For a wider look at the category, see Capterra's [best digital asset management software for small businesses](https://www.capterra.com/digital-asset-management-software/s/small-businesses/) and the [digital asset management software](https://www.capterra.com/digital-asset-management-software/) category.

**Can your team find assets without a tutorial?**

Ease of use and search, tagging, and organization were the leading pro themes for Kontainer, MediaValet, and Dash, and search results were the top complaint for MediaValet. Test search with your own file names and tags in a demo.

**Does it keep brand assets controlled and shareable?**

Reviewers consistently valued permissions, portals, and external sharing. Check how the tool handles folder-level permissions, expiring links, and partner access. If brand consistency is your main goal, also browse [brand management software](https://www.capterra.com/brand-management-software/).

**How much setup and admin does it need?**

Adobe Experience Manager and Cloudinary reviewers flagged learning curve and technical setup, in 19 of 36 and 5 of 32 reviews. Ask who will administer the system and whether you need developer time.

**How is digital asset management software priced, and what do the plans cap?**

Starting prices in this list include $109 per month ([Dash](https://www.capterra.com/p/214529/Dash/pricing/)), $99 per month (Cloudinary), $500 per month ([Kontainer](https://www.capterra.com/p/143730/Kontainer/pricing/)) and $20 per user per month (Box), with Adobe Experience Manager and MediaValet on custom quotes. Plans often cap users, storage, or downloads. The clearest examples I found are Dash, whose Start-up plan includes up to 250 monthly downloads and 10GB of storage, and Kontainer, whose Core plan includes 50 user accounts and 100GB.

Ask about caps first

Download limits (Dash), user accounts (Kontainer), and storage tiers change the real monthly cost. Ask each vendor for the price at your expected asset volume and user count before you book a demo.

**Does it fit your team size and asset types?**

A tool built for developer-led image delivery or for Adobe-centered enterprises can be a poor fit for a 10-person marketing team. Use the review segments above to narrow your list.

## Frequently asked questions about digital asset management software

What is digital asset management software?

Digital asset management (DAM) software stores, organizes, and distributes images, video, and other digital files in one searchable library. It adds metadata, access permissions, and sharing so teams can find and reuse approved assets. See Capterra's full [digital asset management software](https://www.capterra.com/digital-asset-management-software/) category.

What is the best digital asset management software?

There is no single best tool for every team. Dash has the highest rating at 4.82, Kontainer is the best-validated dedicated DAM with 119 reviews at 4.77. Box has the largest base at 222 reviews. Adobe Experience Manager suits large Adobe-based teams, and Cloudinary suits developer-led media delivery.

How much does digital asset management software cost?

Pricing in this list ranges from $20 per user per month for [Box](https://www.capterra.com/p/148766/Box/pricing/)'s Business plan to custom quotes for Adobe Experience Manager and MediaValet. Dash starts at $109 per month on its Start-up plan, Cloudinary at $99 per month on its Plus plan, and Kontainer at $500 per month on its Core plan. [Capterra's category data](https://www.capterra.com/digital-asset-management-software/) puts entry-level plans at about $74 per month on average and premium plans at about $459. Actual costs depend on the product and subscription plan you choose.

What features should I look for?

The features reviewers mention most are search and tagging, metadata and organization, sharing and permissions, and integrations with design and web tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Shopify. Prioritize the ones tied to your daily pain points.

Is there free digital asset management software?

Some tools offer free plans or trials. Browse Capterra's list of [free digital asset management software](https://www.capterra.com/digital-asset-management-software/s/free/). Of the six picks, Cloudinary lists a free version, Adobe Experience Manager, Box, Dash, and Kontainer list free trials, and MediaValet does not list a free trial, so check each vendor's current plans.

Who should skip a full DAM system?

Small teams with a limited number of files and no outside partners to share with can often start with a file sharing tool such as Box, then move to a dedicated DAM as asset volume and sharing needs grow.

Is MediaValet or Kontainer better for small teams?

In this review dataset, Kontainer scored 4.77 across 119 reviews and MediaValet scored 4.40 across 45, so Kontainer rates higher, though most of its reviewers are in Denmark. Compare features and pricing side by side in Capterra's [MediaValet vs. Kontainer comparison](https://www.capterra.com/compare/124632-143730/MediaValet-vs-Kontainer), or read about [MediaValet](https://www.capterra.com/p/124632/MediaValet/) directly.

Reviews were assessed from October 2024 to October 2026. All ratings and review counts reflect data as of the time of publication. Pricing was verified against each product's official Capterra listing in October 2026.

To be included in this list, each product had to:

1. Appear on Capterra Shortlist for digital asset management software (2026).

2. Have a minimum of 20 verified Capterra reviews in the last 24 months.

3. Have an overall rating of 4.2 or above based on reviews in the last 24 months.

Several products were evaluated and excluded: Canva (4.79) and Airtable (4.62) are on Capterra Shortlist but were excluded because they are a design platform and a database tool rather than DAM-specific, and Bynder did not reach 20 reviews in the dataset (13). Products not on Capterra Shortlist for digital asset management (2026) were not considered, including general-purpose tools (Google Workspace, monday.com, Jira, OneDrive), which make up more than half of the raw review pull. M-Files (4.60) and Revver (4.50) are on Capterra Shortlist for document management, not digital asset management, and Adobe Bridge (4.49) is on Capterra Shortlist for 2025 rather than 2026.

To build the shortlist:

- I analyzed 482 verified Capterra reviews of 6 products, drawn from a digital asset management review export of 8,826 reviews across 154 products before the exclusions above.

- I assessed reviews on overall rating, ease of use, functionality, value, and support, and on themes in the pros and cons text. Theme counts reflect keyword matches in review text and are directional. Quotes are verbatim from the review dataset, and I did not quote non-English reviews.
