Learning how to delete your Quora account permanently can help you streamline the process.

Many business professionals use Quora to seek and share information. Some individuals utilize the question-and-answer platform to earn passive income. Despite its offerings, the platform isn’t always the best means to reach your target audience.

Besides, it can cause privacy issues, convincing many small-and-midsize-business (SMB) owners to delete their accounts permanently.

This article highlights the steps for Quora account deletion to help you temporarily deactivate or permanently delete your account.

Why delete your Quora account?

While Quora offers various opportunities for businesses, there may be situations that warrant deleting your profile.

Some of the most common reasons for deleting Quora accounts include

  • Security breaches

  • Privacy issues

  • Trolls or cyberbullies

  • Excessive distraction

  • Not relevant for target audience

  • Duplicate accounts

  • Company closures

  • Quora Partner Program shutdown

What happens when you delete your Quora account?

Quora takes 14 days to process your account deletion request. If you log in during this time, you will have to resubmit your request for permanent account deletion.

Deleting your Quora account means permanently losing access to everything created by the account holder. This includes user profiles, images, posts, videos, answers, comments, votes, endorsements, and messages.

Despite a user’s account deletion, the questions they posted on the platform remain intact athe Quora community owns them. Once your account is deleted, your name will no longer appear with the posted questions and will be replaced with ‘Quora User.’

Quora retains the right to preserve all content for legal purposes, and the platform won’t delete any content republished outside of Quora.

How to restore your deleted Quora Account

After submitting an account deletion request, you have two weeks to change your mind. Logging back in before the 14 days are up cancels the request. Once Quora processes your account deletion—and the grace period has passed—there’s no way to restore it.

How to back up your Quora content

Quora doesn’t automatically back up all your content on the platform. Before deleting your account, it’s best to save copies of any valuable content.

If you need copies of your content and personal data for legal or other reasons, you can request an archived copy from Quora.

For this, you have to go to the Quora “Contact Us” page, select ‘I want a copy of my data’ in the dropdown menu, and submit the required information.

Your archived content should arrive within 72 hours.

How do you delete your Quora account permanently?

There are two ways to remove your Quora account permanently: initiate the request on your personal computer or follow the steps on your mobile device. Both processes are similar, but navigation will look slightly different.

How do you troubleshoot common Quora account deletion problems?

Deleting a Quora account is simple, but you may run into a snag. Here are some of the most common problems you may face while deleting your Quora account and how to address them:

  • No password: If you created a Quora account by logging in through Facebook or Google, you won’t have a password to confirm deletion. Click ‘Create an account password’ in the last step and check your email for instructions.

  • Forgot password: If you can’t remember your password, you won’t be able to confirm deletion. Click ‘Forgot Password?’ and check your email for resetting instructions.

  • Account still exists: If your account is active after the 14-grace period expires, you might have logged back in without realizing it. Or, you may be logged in on other devices. Ensure you’ve logged out of your account on all devices, and resubmit the deletion request.

Deactivating vs. deleting your Quora account

As you go through the steps for how to delete your Quora account, you’ll notice you can either deactivate or delete your account.

  • Deactivated account: Deactivating your account lets you take a break from Quora. With this option, you can remain temporarily inactive while keeping your content on Quora. Account deactivation implies that you won’t receive emails or notifications. To reactivate your account, you have to log in to your account via your PC or mobile.

  • Deleted account:  Deleting your Quora account means the platform wipes all your content from the website and app. You’ll no longer receive messages or notifications, and there’s no way to reactivate the account after permanent account deletion.

Learn more about using social media for business

Quora is an informational, social media platform with a huge number of users. Its unique question-and-answer format sets it apart as it offers interesting reading, a way to reach a large audience. However, the platform can also be a hub for irrelevant content and spammy posts. The site has previously reported having security breaches, putting vital information at risk. So, deleting or deactivating your Quora account might be beneficial sometimes.
