## Learn about the different options for taking a picture on your Mac device.

When it comes to communication, visuals are essential. The majority of people retain more information visually than information that is written down. The human brain also processes images and videos much faster than text alone.

For small and midsize businesses (SMBs), this means great visuals are essential at all stages of your customer's journey. Additionally, your team’s ability to streamline your content creation process also lies in the efficiency of your internal communications systems. And there is one overlooked tool that could help you in this aspect—screenshots.

Screenshots can be an effective tool for your business, as you're not only providing an accessible reference for yourself but also enhancing your documentation, training modules, and presentations, ensuring your team grasps information effortlessly.

## Can you take a picture with a camera app on a Mac?

People often look for a built-in camera app to take screenshots on Mac, but one does not exist.

However, Macs have a powerful set of screenshot and screen recording capabilities, they just require mastering some simple keyboard shortcuts to access.

### How to save a screenshot taken with keyboard shortcuts

Screenshots, by default, find their home on the desktop and will automatically be saved with this filename: "Screen Shot \[date\] at \[time\].png”.

But you can change where it is stored by following the following steps:

- Once you see a thumbnail after taking a screenshot, click the thumbnail.

- Briefly, after clicking the thumbnail, it opens up the image.

- You can either drag the thumbnail straight into the document you're working on or to a new folder. (By default, you will see a thumbnail every time you take a screenshot unless you disable this feature. You can edit the "Show Floating Thumbnail" feature, which is enabled by default, through the Options menu.)

Crop out all the unnecessary elements so these things won’t overlap with the message you’re trying to convey.

- **Annotation advantage:** Accentuate or underscore pivotal segments for clarity. Annotations can help you draw your audience’s attention to your document's or image’s most crucial parts to easily communicate the main narrative without overwhelming your audience.

- **Organize and label:** SMBs managing a plethora of screenshots will benefit from coherent naming strategies. By using a coherent naming strategy, you’re ensuring that you can retrieve essential information with efficiency. Your team can also access your repositories without getting lost in a mix of files, images, and screenshots.
