Co-Founder Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Glad we're using Alma" June 15, 2019 5.0 Pros Unlike other SIS's, Alma actually looks and feels like it was made in the 2010's. The system is solid, and has essentially every feature a smaller school like ours would want (and many more that we don't need to use). The gradebook is excellent, and it's easy to transfer classes and students from year-to-year. Their customer service has been great (we accidentally deleted multiple report cards in different places the other day and they quickly and helpfully solved our issue by restoring to a backup), and they are continually adding features and improving the platform. And the cost has been at least 50% less than quotes we were getting from major competitors. Many reasons to switch to Alma. Cons The latest transcripts update was helpful - there are still a couple of features we'd like on the transcripts front, but that's mostly because our school has a unique curriculum. This is totally just a personal preference, but I'd also like to be able to search for classes in the search feature in addition to contacts. Office Manager Education Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "User-Friendly, Customer First ALMA-SIS" April 6, 2026 5.0 Overall, switching over to ALMA SIS was the best thing that we did at our school. We moved previously from PowerSchool to TeacherEase and then to ALMA, which has far exceeded our expectations in an SIS system. It is incredibly easy to use, manage, and keep up with. Customer service is one of the best I have ever experienced, and overall our staff and families love the change. Personally, the connection with our State reporting system and how easy it made it was the winning factor for me. Pros We love ALMA SIS at our school both for its easy connection for state reporting as well as how easy it is to use and train others on. Admin and teachers can easily manage their case loads and access important information. Customer support is easy and convenient on the homepage at all times, and someone is always incredibly prompt in returning messages. Those of us in the office love the ability to securely manage the kids information easily in the system and navigate details we have not had the ability to in previous SIS program. Cons It was a bit of an adjustment not having a way to "call" parents with alerts, but our families have been able to get used to text and emails only. However, if phone calls became available in the future we would love it. June 24, 2018 3.0 Pros I LOVE the customer service. They are always willing to work with us and help us adapt the program to what we need. I love the many different reporting features and how they each have a unique description that helps me find exactly what I need. I also like that I can star the reports I frequently use. I like that I am able to easily fill in grades in the "gradebook" tab, as well as having the opportunity to quickly report final grades at the end of the term. I am also happy with the ease in resetting a password for a user who has forgotten theirs as well as the quick ability to change a username. I appreciate that many users can have access to the same information (meaning a student and both of their parents can have their own accounts but access the same information on their child). I think overall I am mostly impressed with Alma's support team, how quickly and professionally they respond, how they will not let me leave the conversation until they are satisfied that all of my questions have been answered and my concerns resolved, and I love that they are constantly updating, making the website better, and then sending out an email with all of the updates and detailed instructions on how to utilize them. Cons I feel the website could be slightly more user friendly. There are often times it takes longer than I would like to access the information that I need (a lot of clicking through redundant tabs and not a lot of short cuts). I also wish it was easier for parents to understand the website. I don't like that there is no easy way for a parent to access a student's missing work, instead having to look through each class and assignment to see what has and has not been turned in. I also wish there was a way for us, as administrators and teachers, to see exactly what the parents see. It is hard to give advice and support to a parent when their screen looks different from mine; and I often don't know if they can see everything that I can, like all of the notes and assignment descriptions and what not. Our faculty are not computer savvy and they were able to hit the ground running and help each other out as needed. Only occasionally did I need to intervene to answer questions or get someone on track (ie. weighting of their grades). Pros We switched to Alma from Blackbaud and it was like night and day for our faculty and families. As a very small school with limited in-house tech staff, Alma was almost completely self explanatory. Between the chat and videos, almost all questions were answered. The Wednesday sessions online were also great. Once we did need major assistance to correct a major error in initial set up (we chose a 7 day week and not a 5 day week). The folks under the hood took care of the problem and got us back on track without losing any of our data. For the price, Alma provided every features we had needed and used in Blackbaud. Cons The Bell Schedule concept should be reviewed VERY carefully before you get started to avoid problems. Our schedule was in flux when we started which added to our challenges. There is not a feature that I need that is not available. Pros The SIS ALMA is user friendly for the administrator, student, teacher, and parent. When I, an ALMA Administrator, need assistance their customer support is easy to access and always can help within moments. When I, as a teacher, use it - I know my grades are secure and can easily be accessed by students and parents to keep up to date with what their child is achieving. I like many of the features including leaving notes, adding calendar events, sending whole class messages or something on the bulletin board feature. We are lucky to utilize this SIS in our district. Cons There is nothing that comes to mind as a con for ALMA. Of all the SIS systems I have utilized, this is my preferred system. Working with them has been great! I hope I never have to use another SIS for the rest of my career. Pros I have used Alma SIS for years, in two different school districts. One of the best qualities of Alma SIS is its ease of use. My teachers love how easy it is to navigate for attendance, grades, etc. Since Alma is so easy to use, just a few clicks, and attendance is done. Also, especially with the integration and sync with Google Classroom, teachers spend little time entering grades. This provides more time to attend to all the other tasks that teachers have on their plates every day. Students and parents also love Alma because of how easy it is to navigate. Cons Honestly, nothing. Out of all of the student information systems I have used, both as a parent and an educator, none have come close to the experience I have had with Alma. What impressed our staff most was how easy to use the system is. Teachers and administrators alike were able to jump right in and begin using Alma confidently from day one. The interface is easy to love and the information is in a very predictable format that makes it easy to find quickly. When technology goes awry, like it always does, Alma's customer support is top-notch. They have been phenomenal at helping us navigate issues on the admin and family side and working through to a solution. We are incredibly pleased with the product and feel that we are getting a great value for our investment. It is very user friendly and easy to navigate. I like that you can hover over a student's picture to enlarge it. This is helpful when I am learning the names of new student to the school that i work at. Pros The feature that I like most about Alma is the ability to flag students with medical issues. By creating a critical health alert, teachers and other school staff are easily made aware of certain high risk students. Also, I like that the school nurse is able to upload individualized health care plans to Alma, making it simple to pass along pertinent health information for those who need to know this. It's well-structured and easy to navigate. I would love to see improvements to accessing the full roster either by school or grade without having to pull a full report. Pros I absolutely love the file cabinet available for each student. The digital file cabinet allows for better organization of a student's file in one place. I also really enjoy interacting with the layout of the website. Cons Not being able to see a full grade roster on the dashboard. It comes in handy to be able to access the full grade or full school roster without having to go into specific classes. If a parent lists a child has asthma , allergies etc it should be reflected on the student profile . Having to read each individual profile is quite time consuming and makes the process of asking pointless ifwe have to follow up and reinput the data on the profile anyway. As an SLP I'm able to see attendance, student contact information, student pictures for use of visual schedules. I love that it is easy to use. Cons One challenge I’ve encountered with Alma SIS as a service provider is the inability to create my own classrooms or groups. As an SLP, I work with students across multiple grade levels and classrooms, so having my caseload organized in one central place would significantly improve efficiency. Currently, I have to search for each student individually, which takes extra time and makes it harder to manage documentation and track progress. If Alma allowed service providers to create and manage their own student groups or "classes," it would streamline workflows and better support the unique roles of specialists in schools. The site is user friendly and the on demand help box is great, even with the smallest question all reps are super helpful. Pros As my role as an admin assistant the spreadsheet data editor is so helpful with time management and state reporting. I have not used any other platform other than Alma. I think it is very user friendly. Pros I like the chat box. I always get a response within 30 minutes or sooner. All the employees are very personable and if they don't have an answer, they get one! I also like the Study Guide. Cons Nothing. I have never had any problems with Alma.
