Co-Founder Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Glad we're using Alma" June 15, 2019 5.0 Pros Unlike other SIS's, Alma actually looks and feels like it was made in the 2010's. The system is solid, and has essentially every feature a smaller school like ours would want (and many more that we don't need to use). The gradebook is excellent, and it's easy to transfer classes and students from year-to-year. Their customer service has been great (we accidentally deleted multiple report cards in different places the other day and they quickly and helpfully solved our issue by restoring to a backup), and they are continually adding features and improving the platform. And the cost has been at least 50% less than quotes we were getting from major competitors. Many reasons to switch to Alma. Cons The latest transcripts update was helpful - there are still a couple of features we'd like on the transcripts front, but that's mostly because our school has a unique curriculum. This is totally just a personal preference, but I'd also like to be able to search for classes in the search feature in addition to contacts. Office Manager Education Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "User-Friendly, Customer First ALMA-SIS" April 6, 2026 5.0 Overall, switching over to was the best thing that we did at our school. We moved previously from PowerSchool to TeacherEase and then to ALMA, which has far exceeded our expectations in an SIS system. It is incredibly easy to use, manage, and keep up with. Customer service is one of the best I have ever experienced, and overall our staff and families love the change. Personally, the connection with our State reporting system and how easy it made it was the winning factor for me. Pros We love at our school both for its easy connection for state reporting as well as how easy it is to use and train others on. Admin and teachers can easily manage their case loads and access important information. Customer support is easy and convenient on the homepage at all times, and someone is always incredibly prompt in returning messages. Those of us in the office love the ability to securely manage the kids information easily in the system and navigate details we have not had the ability to in previous SIS program. Cons It was a bit of an adjustment not having a way to "call" parents with alerts, but our families have been able to get used to text and emails only. However, if phone calls became available in the future we would love it. June 24, 2018 3.0 Pros I LOVE the customer service. They are always willing to work with us and help us adapt the program to what we need. I love the many different reporting features and how they each have a unique description that helps me find exactly what I need. I also like that I can star the reports I frequently use. I like that I am able to easily fill in grades in the "gradebook" tab, as well as having the opportunity to quickly report final grades at the end of the term. I am also happy with the ease in resetting a password for a user who has forgotten theirs as well as the quick ability to change a username. I appreciate that many users can have access to the same information (meaning a student and both of their parents can have their own accounts but access the same information on their child). I think overall I am mostly impressed with Alma's support team, how quickly and professionally they respond, how they will not let me leave the conversation until they are satisfied that all of my questions have been answered and my concerns resolved, and I love that they are constantly updating, making the website better, and then sending out an email with all of the updates and detailed instructions on how to utilize them. Cons I feel the website could be slightly more user friendly. There are often times it takes longer than I would like to access the information that I need (a lot of clicking through redundant tabs and not a lot of short cuts). I also wish it was easier for parents to understand the website. I don't like that there is no easy way for a parent to access a student's missing work, instead having to look through each class and assignment to see what has and has not been turned in. I also wish there was a way for us, as administrators and teachers, to see exactly what the parents see. It is hard to give advice and support to a parent when their screen looks different from mine; and I often don't know if they can see everything that I can, like all of the notes and assignment descriptions and what not. Our faculty are not computer savvy and they were able to hit the ground running and help each other out as needed. Only occasionally did I need to intervene to answer questions or get someone on track (ie. weighting of their grades). Pros We switched to Alma from Blackbaud and it was like night and day for our faculty and families. As a very small school with limited in-house tech staff, Alma was almost completely self explanatory. Between the chat and videos, almost all questions were answered. The Wednesday sessions online were also great. Once we did need major assistance to correct a major error in initial set up (we chose a 7 day week and not a 5 day week). The folks under the hood took care of the problem and got us back on track without losing any of our data. For the price, Alma provided every features we had needed and used in Blackbaud. Cons The Bell Schedule concept should be reviewed VERY carefully before you get started to avoid problems. Our schedule was in flux when we started which added to our challenges. There is not a feature that I need that is not available. Pros The SIS ALMA is user friendly for the administrator, student, teacher, and parent. When I, an ALMA Administrator, need assistance their customer support is easy to access and always can help within moments. When I, as a teacher, use it - I know my grades are secure and can easily be accessed by students and parents to keep up to date with what their child is achieving. I like many of the features including leaving notes, adding calendar events, sending whole class messages or something on the bulletin board feature. We are lucky to utilize this SIS in our district. Cons There is nothing that comes to mind as a con for ALMA. Of all the SIS systems I have utilized, this is my preferred system. Working with them has been great! I hope I never have to use another SIS for the rest of my career. Pros I have used for years, in two different school districts. One of the best qualities of Alma SIS is its ease of use. My teachers love how easy it is to navigate for attendance, grades, etc. Since Alma is so easy to use, just a few clicks, and attendance is done. Also, especially with the integration and sync with Google Classroom, teachers spend little time entering grades. This provides more time to attend to all the other tasks that teachers have on their plates every day. Students and parents also love Alma because of how easy it is to navigate. Cons Honestly, nothing. Out of all of the student information systems I have used, both as a parent and an educator, none have come close to the experience I have had with Alma. July 15, 2025 5.0 We were a test district for the recent iNHDEX merge, and it was a big undertaking for state and federal reporting. ALMA support is always ready to help resolve issues quickly and provide an explanation so you understand how it happened and how to correct it. :-) The ALMA support team is top-notch and far superior to the former SIS we had for years. Pros is a great end-user system. It's easy to navigate and get the information you need with a few clicks. The Spreadsheet data editor is probably the most used part of ALMA for me, as a quick way to get data and pull what you need by fields and groups without a degree in programming. :-) Having the ALMA alert system built into the program is great for sending out urgent messages quickly. Cons Honestly, there isn't anything that I like least about ALMA. It takes time to train on a new SIS, and I feel folks may confuse a lack of knowledge with a lack of system performance. The training videos are very helpful, as are the weekly Zoom Q & A's. Alma SIS is very user-friendly and most helpful with some great features such as:  Directory - in alphabetical order which could include photo of staff and students  Calendar - school academic calendar for the year  Classes - List of classes includes grade level, term, schedule, teacher and number of students Separate section for each teacher's class entitled "My Classes" which includes: Dashboard: Can include lessons and assignments; shows a weekly calendar (helpful to note upcoming quizzes, tests, etc.) Announcements - teachers can send out an email to parents through Team Attendance - provides and keep record of student attendance which includes reasons for absences Other tabs include Curriculum, Assignments, Gradebook, Roster, Setting and Admin panel  There is a section for each student; overview, bio, schedule, contacts, classes, incidents (to keep record of any incident that needs reporting) Again, when all else fails, there's a 'Search' feature". Pros As an instructional assistant, when substituting for lead teachers, is very helpful for taking attendance for the main class I assist. It keeps record throughout the year and reasons for absences are also noted. I like the ability to check the lead teacher's schedule to locate the appropriate lesson plans for each class. I also like the ability to report incidents when needed under the appropriate student's profile. When in doubt, I really like the 'search' by name option to locate students and staff members in Alma when needed Cons I like the "My Classes" option for easy access to take attendance, however, it would be nice if there was a way to take and save attendance for all classes that I substitute for. " April 6, 2026 5.0 Overall, as a nurse, I have had a very good experience using Alma. It is very user friendly and easy to navigate. I like that you can hover over a student's picture to enlarge it. This is helpful when I am learning the names of new student to the school that i work at. Pros The feature that I like most about Alma is the ability to flag students with medical issues. By creating a critical health alert, teachers and other school staff are easily made aware of certain high risk students. Also, I like that the school nurse is able to upload individualized health care plans to Alma, making it simple to pass along pertinent health information for those who need to know this. Cons One thing that could be considered a con is the speed of program. Sometimes, it takes longer than others (when trying to access student health information). I love how accessible and user-friendly the platform is—it gives me quick access to the student data I need, from attendance and grades to IEP documentation. It helps me stay connected with teachers and staff, making it easier to support students effectively across settings. Alma really streamlines communication and keeps everything in one place, which saves time and improves collaboration. Pros It is live up to date information about students. As an SLP I'm able to see attendance, student contact information, student pictures for use of visual schedules. I love that it is easy to use. Cons One challenge I’ve encountered with as a service provider is the inability to create my own classrooms or groups. As an SLP, I work with students across multiple grade levels and classrooms, so having my caseload organized in one central place would significantly improve efficiency. Currently, I have to search for each student individually, which takes extra time and makes it harder to manage documentation and track progress. If Alma allowed service providers to create and manage their own student groups or "classes," it would streamline workflows and better support the unique roles of specialists in schools. Cons Our main challenge with is managing costs in a non-dollar economy as a nonprofit. The site is user friendly and the on demand help box is great, even with the smallest question all reps are super helpful. Pros It is fairly easy to navigate both as a teacher and parent. It is simple in terms of adding grades to the gradebook and submitting grades for reporting. The new messaging feature is really great as well. Cons I would prefer that it automatically defaults to "assign now" rather than having to check the box to set it up for the gradebook. Cons Sometimes the grading using Google can be tricky setting the topic names in google classroom to match exactly or else they don’t sort into the Alma grading categories as well.
