" March 4, 2026 5.0 Im ensured I don’t miss expenses for clients and also deductions in my QuickBooks account. I can take a picture of a receipt or forward it from an email. Pros I absolutely love Dext. I’m a solo entrepreneur that gets busy and it’s easy to get unorganized with receipts. This program allows me to not only upload receipts and have its vendor, cost and account extracted then published to my QuickBooks account. You can also add that it’s billable to a client in QuickBooks and holds the photos so you don’t have to keep paper receipts. Cons This program is solid. While the software served it's purpose for many years I no longer have use for it. They have made it impossible to cancel the service and have just charged my credit card again. Totally shameful. The chat keeps telling me someone will be in touch but no one is. I will no longer be recommending it to clients. Cons Customer Service was basically non-existent. Would definitely recommend it and we always try get new clients set up on Dext. Saves having to be given folders of receipts when they can take photos on the go or at home Pros So easy to use as a bookkeeper and also for the client. The app is clear as well and easy to upload any receipts/invoices. It's more sophisticated than Hubdoc and better than Xero expenses as you can clearly allocate costs to people in and expense claim, without them staying in one big list. The AI and rule setup for suppliers is very clever too Cons The only thing is its duplication spotting. Most of the time it's great. But if I automatically receive an invoice via email and upload it and then a staff member also uploads it as they have paid for it it doesn't make it clear who submitted the other one. So I've found a couple times that I have it down as a company expense but having to double check that it's been paid for by someone else. The platform allows me to easily take photographs of invoices, receipts and import email documents. I specifically like the integrations with platforms such as Xero, which allows a smooth and streamlined bookkeeping process. Using Dext significantly reduces manual effort as it captures all of the key information needed to complete financial tasks. The multi-client dashboard is especially beneficial as it ensures that I have all my clients in one place and can effortlessly switch between them and publish their receipts and invoices through to the accounting software. Overall, Dext performs extremely well at what its designed to do, it takes away a lot of the repetitive, time-consuming parts of bookkeeping and helps us stay organized. A reliable tool for busy accounting workflows! Pros What I like most about Dext is how much time it saves on day-to-day financial admin, especially when it comes to capturing and organising receipts and invoices. I can easily take a photo and have the data extracted automatically making the whole process effortless. I particularly like the extracting lines function it offers when I have long receipts, this makes my tasks much more time efficient. Cons Sometimes when I use Dext, if the software is unable to find the supplier. Administration Assistant Individual & Family Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Dext is perfect for small startups" November 14, 2023 4.0 To be perfectly honest, it was 'fair' at best, we had a good run but outgrew the cost which became very exorbitant after the last company buyout Really poor customer support options, don't expect a reply for up to a week. Not good when you have to pay your workers and nothing functioning. Pros Dext has a potentially daunting array of choice at first setup, the beauty is you can just leave sit what you do not need until you need it. Our staff used the software with ease and were able to confirm 90% of the time, to the required use of the software making it less time consuming to chase receipts. It is simple to use and allows multiple levels of authorisation. Scales slightly to cost for small business. They do offer discounts to NFP/RC organisations. Compliant with ATO tax reporting requirements. Fully customisable categories table. Cons Technical support were good, but not great, often the replies were cryptic or were minimalist, often resulting in confusion from them or us. Not a solution once you go over the affordable tier of 80 employees, there are then much better solutions out there. Some limitations in the software framework, but nothing crippling. They expect me to pay twice" February 24, 2022 1.0 I wasn’t asking for anything more than what the average person would receive for their price. Why offer a terrible product that you don’t even advertise, that has almost the identical name to the next level product? I feel utterly duped. Pros I feel so disheartened by Dext & Google Play! They offered me a discount (without refunding my original purchase), yet they didn’t offer to only charge the difference between what I’d already paid and the next subscription level. WHY??? Cons I mistakenly subscribed to Dext’s “Business Plan” through the Dext app. I couldn’t figure out why it didn’t function like it was supposed to. Once I figured out that it was called “Business” and not “Business Plus” I realized I must have subscribed to something different…I didn’t know they offered anything different from their website. I contacted Dext right away and told them I want to upgrade (or refund to upgrade on my own). They told me Google Play can refund this. I communicated with Google Play. They said, “We can’t do this, only the app developer can. I asked, “How do I communicate with the app developer?” They gave me the same email address that I previously used to communicate with Dext. I went back and forth many times (over the course of a month) communicating with Google Play and Dext; both telling me the other can help me. In the end, Dext offered to cancel my current subscription (but I wouldn’t get a refund) and then they’d give me 20% off a new subscription. Dext is EXPENSIVE and now I have to pay double, when I asked to be upgraded (or refunded) right after I bought it. WHO is lying to me? In the end, Dext simply closed the case on me instead of offering me the upgraded subscription for the price difference. UNBELIEVABLE! Dext told me that I hadn’t heard of this lower level subscription because they got rid of it as it wasn’t popular, but that Google Play kept it. Review Source CB Christal B. Pros The AI behind this software is smart and adaptive. The OCR recognition can identify the debit/credit card used on a submitted receipt and match that receipt payment to the specific bank account in your accounting software so you can avoid sending payments to the wrong account. For accounting firms, the bundled pricing is a great value to share with your clients. It does not just push the data to your accounting software, but will search your transactions in the software to try to find matches and will sync up the payments with ease. Cons While they are doing good with the fetch option for online invoices (they can pull the statements and invoices from online billers, such as cell phone or internet), they do not have the capability, currently, to pull bank statements. Pros Capture expenses is really easy with Dext. As a team we use a combination of photos, for physical receipts, and emails where we just attach a PDF. Both methods work really well, and it takes away the pain of tracking expenses. Cons The accuracy for digitisation is excellent, however, it can be slow at times. To be honest though, I would rather it take a longer time to process and be accurate than being fast and inaccurate. Reason for choosing Dext We were recommended Receipt Bank, which became Dext, by our bookkeeper. We didn't evaluate other options, as the recommendation was made based on experience. The mobile app is perfect for tradespeople and those on the road. The dashboard feature is particularly useful to us a bookkeeping business as we can monitor that activity level of our clients as well as ensuring the correct uploading of their documents. Cons We have found ourselves paying over the odds for this software on behalf of clients whose business sees peaks and troughs in terms of activity and so some months can be charged at a higher rate because they reflect the previous month's activity, despite little to know uploads taking place in the month following. Pros I used Dext years ago when it was Receipt Bank and thought I’d look into it now for my company. Pros I can auto-forward bills and invoices I receive via email to Receipt Bank, the ones which are consistent, I can even auto-publish to my accounting software (XERO) Cons I'm in Canada and have a few bills I pay in US funds. Pros Photo recognition is very accurate and customer service is helpful and existant. Cons Where do i start. The system is very clunky, looks great from the outside but there are better solutions out there especially for the price. Upload a reciept and approve it. Then wait 24 hours for it to enter your accounting software. Nightmare when your trying to reconcile. Doesnt link with QB Projects so have to go into each reciept in QB and add project. This defeats the whole purpose of the app. Oh and you have to wait for it to push to QB. This can be integrated into your accounting software that you use seamlesly without any hussles.
