### "Analytic Solver - Serious Horsepower"

October 30, 2018

5.0

I primarily use Analytic Solver to analyze stochastic problems associated with government social service delivery systems. For example, I've run analyses to determine the probabilities of meeting legal settlement system performance targets. Most recently, I've used Analytic Solver to inform leadership about reimbursement rate setting and contract terms for supported employment service providers.

Pros

The thing I like most about Analytic Solver is that it has handled everything I've thrown at it. In fact, it's limited only by my abilities as a user.

Cons

Since being introduced to Metalogs as a means of quickly and flexibly building distributions, I've grown to dislike the distribution builder in Analytic Solver. I wish they would include the Metalog as an option.

### "The best a click away"

July 8, 2021

5.0

The best corporate performance is up to you, because most employees already have the models, but they do not know how to improve them.

Pros

Most managers do have Excel models, financial, economical, product design. This product let you find the best you can do

Cons

Most people do not know of their existence and how to use it, it is a hidden treasure, most people are not delivering the most, because they do not know about this

Reason for choosing Analytic Solver

Because Excell has 1 million rows for each worksheet, you can have several worksheets, in one worksheet you can have up to 100,000 optimization variables.

### "The only software available"

March 18, 2020

3.0

When using this on windows, it is a great experience and allows me to solve detailed simulations and optimizations on Excel. Self explanatory and works well in the grand scheme of things.

Pros

The functions behind analytic solver work. When running simulations, optimizations, or any other type of excel problem, the solver does its job- when it works. It is clean and is pretty easy to understand. The solver is clean enough to see exactly what you need to do to get an answer.

Cons

This software is only compatible with Windows although it has a platform for both the iPad and the online version of excel. The system looks like it is working, but you can never get a solution because there is zero functionality on a non-windows run analytical software.

### "A good tool for daily analytical use"

October 10, 2018

5.0

I used this software in my prescriptive class to solve linear optimization problems. The software is easy to use. Even though it has limits on number of variables and constraints, I think 2000 variables and 100 constraints are enough to solve problems in small to medium companies.

Pros

It is easy to use. The software is integrated to Excel so that beginners can learn how to solve large-scale linear optimization problems for a short amount of time. This software also works for non-linear optimization and Monte-Carlo simulation. Functions relating to data mining and machine learning are also included. If you are a teacher and you want to use this for your class, you can get its licenses for free for 6 months.

Cons

Even though it can work with non-linear model, some time the results are not good. In addition, it can be difficult to build a complex model . You may need other tools if you want to do so. The cost is high for personal use.

### "Unlock the power of Analytic Solver"

November 16, 2018

4.0

I'm very happy with the software. It integrates seamlessly with Excel and is able to deal with, high level of complexity. I would recommend Analytic Solver to any serious modeler.

Pros

\- very easy to setup and solve complex models - seamless integration of simulation and optimization engine when modelling for optimal solutions within uncertain environment - stable when using complex models

Cons

\- problem with the software not recognizing that it has been licensed. Keeps on bombing out and required one to re-log in to allow the model to run again - very annoying - if one is working remotely without wi-fi connection, software does not work because of licencing issues

### "Great product for Excel-based optimization"

October 31, 2018

4.0

We were researching a MINLP case with ~ 200 mixed variables. It is a transportation problem; Analytic Solver was capable of providing a near-optimum solution. The "final " solution was further manipulated by us, since some (obvious) "better" solutions were "bypassed" by the solver. The reasons for not getting the "best" optimum solution might be that the version (GRG Solver) we had provides "probably the globally optimal solution" (and not the global optimum), OR that the model itself needs further manipulation, e.g. scaling, rendering it dimensionless, etc.

Pros

User-friendly; MS Excel environment is a value-added feature even for the amateur user.

Cons

The diagnostics of the results and software should be more easily visible/accessible.

### "It helped us in what we needed"

November 5, 2018

5.0

Overall experience has been great. We finally obtained a set of coherent optimums for each of our optimizing challenges.

Pros

The interface, the access to more sophisticated optimizing algorithms, the transparency between the product catalog and what you get with your purchase. Also customer service has been always great.

Cons

Sometimes we had problems when the percentile formula was used in the model, and that formula is essential in some risk models. The software was hard to program. Would have been great to give the software the instruction to make a set of optimum solutions for a defined range of parameters (as an efficient border for example). Then we can leave the software running during night. Would also have been useful to have a bit more automation. For example, make the software get a set of optimums using different optimization methods. This could have been particularly useful for us, because our models are extremely complex and tailor-made, so it is hard to define them as a particular kind of model.

### "Blending High Temp Alloys"

November 6, 2018

5.0

Blending scrap to create alloys for melting. Design of plant lay out. (Minimize travel between work stations.) Select best city to locate certain equipment based on raw material available and transportation costs.

Pros

Easy to use. Applications can be changed with little effort. i have used it to solve several types of problems and have never been disappointed.

Cons

i have had NO negative experiences. the software performs as advertised and the support is exceptional.

### "Think Twice, It's Not Alright"

October 30, 2018

4.0

We mostly work in optimization, occasionally with LOTS of variables (9.2 million). Solver can solve those (given a big enough machine to run on) but the software cost is prohibitive.

Pros

It is a high-end add-on to Excel. I like working in Excel largely because we work with a lot of nonprofits who don't have a load of money to spend on software and they all know Excel, but don't know GAMS, R, etc.

Cons

The licensing. No other software firm I am aware of ties the license to both IP address and user name. Also, the educational licensing is not a great deal compared to many other firms.

### "A must-have plugin for Excel users"

October 19, 2018

5.0

Pros

For a guy who did all the finance and accounting works on Excel, the Analytic solver is very helpful. I can plot graphs and analyze data in one go. Besides data analysis, it also offers analytic solver for both linear and non-linear optimization which is powerful for anyone who does supply chain and optimization math.

Cons

It's hard to build a complex model from the solver. It doesn't allow the combination of multiple models at the same time.

I deal with lots of data, and use it all the time in selecting optimal sub-sections of the data.

Pros

The analytic solver module. I use it all the time.

Cons

I get kicked out when I close EXCEL...and need to log back in when I reopen EXCEL.

### "Monte Carlo"

December 4, 2018

4.0

Used the Frontline software as part of my MBA program. We mainly used it to do monte carlo simulations in Excel for a business management class.

Pros

Great tool for quick Monte Carlo analysis in Excel

Cons

I still think it's easier (and free) to just do Monte Carlo simulations using code.
