There are so many design firms out there that it's hard to cut through the clutter. A Google search of ""website design San Francisco"" would yield too many results so I would need to rely on yelp or a personal reference, and even a personal reference would need to be vetted in some way. Smack Happy stood out on Yelp because it seems like there was a lot of positive feedback, but most important to me you seemed to be one of the only graphic design firms that worked on their own brand and image. Most other companies have a horrible webpage, and they seem to have worked on theirs as much as they would for your best client. For me, that really said that they cared about what you do. The old adage of ""The Cobbler's Children have no shoes"" seemed like a cop out for most of the other companies not to do well for themselves what they claim to do well for others. The other thing that stood out once I was on your website was their actual work you had done for other clients. The designs were bold, playful, and had touches of uniqueness that personalized every site that I saw. I was happy that every site didn't look like a recycled template that you had used and just plugged in info for every new client. Their work is really good and there were only a few companies at theirr level that do work as well as you. I actually got 2 other quotes after meeting with Nicole and both were similarly priced. During the shopping phase the communication with Nicole was easy, warm, and energetic. The meetings in her office were great and she is such a kind person who is really invested in the work that she does for each client and that's apparent. She is also ultra busy (from briefly glancing at her calendar) so I was interested to see what working with her team would be like. Becka, was great to work with and I loved that we had someone nudging us to get things done, but in a positive way (THANK YOU!) Danielle was great too, we were a bit concerned at first because it seemed like she didn't get how we wanted the copy to go, but I expressed that to Nicole and by the next meeting things were on track and the copy we received from that point on was great. As far as the design team is concerned, we worked with Marianne for a while who was great, but then my business partner took over as the lead on the project as we had an internal staffing change that took me away from being as active on the website. Working with the team overall, we were very happy, and I was happy to see that we also got a lot of that personalization at the end of the day in our website, however, I wish they would have pushed the small customized touches more and given us your artistic opinion more often. Sometimes, it felt like it was an inconvenience for us to push the customization agenda. All in all, your polished image as a company and all the time that Nicole spends engaging really gives them guys an active, eager, and willing attitude and the work speaks for itself. Smack Happy Designs rocked for us and I would recommend you guys in a second. May 17, 2018

Pros:

  • The fact that Nicole and her team at Smack Happy are like an extension of our team.
  • Smack Happy is flexible, dependable, completely organized, and forward thinking
  • Nicole and her merry band have always been professional and have listened extremely well to the exact details of the requests that I've made, which have not always been standard approaches, so kudos!
  • Knowing that my project was in the hands of someone who really understands web design and development.

Cons:

  • The fact that most of our discussions are via email. I wish that Smack Happy was located in the South Bay, like our team!
  • I don't really have any serious complaints. Any points of disappointment have typically been when there was an inability to achieve my goal due to some technological shortcoming.
  • Costs a bit more than your average designer, but you get what you pay for
  • Nothing. The experience was seamless and professional from start to finish.

Pros:
The project management aspect of the project, the really great web design (that we get compliments for all the time), and the attention to detail
Cons:
Conference calls and web meetings, I like personally interaction, so this was a bit tough for me, but times are changing and the workforce behind our website lives all over the country.

Overall Experience: Smack Happy is love. Smack Happy is lyfe. I first hired Nicole to help me after a different web designer attempted to help me make my website mobile friendly (they attempted to move me to their reseller platform that would have lost me my domain name in the process - not professional). Nicole not only gave me a custom template that closely matched my old website's colors, but improved upon the look and feel in the process, and all while retaining my website URL. I've since hired Smack Happy to help with business card and brochure designs, as well as several landing pages for Facebook ad campaigns. All of their quality has been top-notch. TL;DR - Smack Happy is love. Smack Happy is lyfe.

Overall Experience: I've been working with Smack Happy Design for almost 4 years. During this time Nicole's done an outstanding job for us - from web design and hosting, to refining our logo and putting together other graphics and branded material....Nicole gets the job done right for us. Nicole's also helped us with the graphics and UI for our mobile apps. She's thoughtful, understands her clients' individual needs and this gets reflected in the quality of her work. Nicole's also a good partner to have when sometimes you don't quite know what you want! She's forthcoming with ideas and suggestions. Internally, we talk of Nicole as if she's a part of our team! I'd heartily recommend Nicole and Smack Happy Design.

Overall Experience: I've worked with Nicole on several projects over the last 4 years, and she never fails to impress me both with her quality of work and diligence. Nicole is a rarity in that she is an illustrator, a graphic designer and also an incredible web developer. She has the ability to listen to a vision or semi-developed plan, and bring it to life both creatively and practically (always in a timely turnaround). She can make WordPress do anything we've ever sought, and she can develop it in such a way that the end user can take on and own themselves. Finally, Nicole is flexible and dependable, working on her own or in a team and delivering on time and on budget.

Overall Experience: I hired Nicole and Smack Happy Design because I wanted someone who lives and breathes the tech scene in San Francisco to create a stunning new website for my business that would attract a tech-friendly, professional audience. The experience was fantastic! The team keeps you on track, talks you through the whole process, and is super organized: And, of course, they produce beautiful websites! Nicole really knows how to run her business—a real professional!
