My firm provides custom content and communications outreach solutions for associations and companies in the tech and telecommunications industries that are engaged in advocacy and thought leadership on key issues. One of our clients is a global association for electronics manufacturers, and they constantly struggle to earn the support of government officials because the industry is technically complex and unfamiliar to most. We wanted to make a video that engages people on the importance of electronics in daily life, and why viewers should support the industry. Regarding process, I coordinated with Social Driver to refine a script I drafted, and then they created the storyboard and the 90-second video. The deadline slipped once or twice due to the chain of feedback that was necessary, but we ended up with an excellent final product that tells the story in a clear, engaging way. The project manager was easy to work with, and each round of iteration showed major progress. The final product included well-chosen stock video clips and some animation work. The process took about four months and cost about $20,000. Regarding the impact, the video received about 44,000 views on social media channels in the first week it was out, and it continues to be the association's “go to” video when explaining the industry to non-technical audiences.
