My Small Service Disabled Veteran Owned company reached out to Direct Line Development for a website build. During our experience working with them we received exceedingly disappointing customer service, project leadership, and design.   Upon our initial contact with Direct Line we explained that our firm was fairly new and was becoming an establish consulting force in the community. We needed/requested a website that was both professional, simple, and aligned with sites similar to those of our peers (examples were provided). It was also expressed that we were not technologically savvy and would need assistance in edits and template designs. Additionally, we informed Direct Line that our clientele was heavily based on government organizations and classified projects. We were surprised to find out how disengaged, disjointed, and outright frustrating this process was while working with Direct Line Development. Throughout the 6 months we worked with them, a few experiences arose that made us uncomfortable with the product Direct Line was producing for us: • We were assured that Direct Line would provide industry-specific assistance while providing editing and narratives based on an understanding of web design. This did not happen; Direct Line never truly understood our industry or vision. • Habitually attempted to force us to pick a cookie-cutter design which they previously created that was NOT based on our recommendations or aesthetic examples. • Direct Line agreed they would enhance logo, edit photos, provide expertise – However my company was forced to hire an outside source to assist with reworking the logo, and other design elements due to their refusal/lack of knowledge. • It was never explained that our website design would be outsourced to a foreign country – ours specifically was outsourced to Russia – with our expressed cliental base this could be a potential classification violation – when we made mention of our dilemma, it was ignored and we were told that this is a normal practice. • Communication was simply not at the forefront, many times we had to repeat our requests, do the work ourselves, or hire another industry professional to create the work to send to Direct Line resulting in a higher expense.   Touted as being “an experienced, dedicated, and results-driven web design company that stands behind our work. We are a team of professionals specializing in web design, development, animation, and SEO.” We were under the impression that Direct Line Development would resolve our issues accordingly. Therefore we attempted to seek a resolution for our discontent and asked for a partial refund of some type – with the full knowledge that the man-hours put into our current product (though unfinished and not to our standard) was worth a portion of the funds spent. However, we were DENIED any refund and instead were offered a "credit" for "additional services" with their company; though we explicitly told the firm we were uncomfortable continuing to do business with their firm. In the long run, our company spent slightly more than $12K with Direct Line Development and we were left with nothing that we believed was suitable both on a security level and aesthetic perspective. Our small veteran-owned company will be pursuing a different web development team elsewhere and we HIGHLY suggest that any other business wanting to utilize Direct Line Development be made aware of their inadequate business practices and hidden outsourcing. The time and money spent collaborating with this company was a complete waste. DO NOT USE THEM… April 6, 2022

Pros:

  • The customer service was great throughout the whole process but the final site and the SEO results that were delivered were better than I anticipated.
  • Great company with customer experience and discounts throughout. No complaints from customers and the prices are very affordable.
  • Fantastic attention to detail in terms of what the customer wants and what is best for conversion.

Cons:

  • Not much to complain about. People are approachable and ready to help businesses grow.
  • I can't think of anything bad about the experience. The SEO results taking a few months might be the only drawback.
  • To be honest, I'd have to say that I wasn't a huge fan of finding out just how much I was missing out on by trying to build out my own site. It's not the fault of DLD, but rather, if they DIDN'T point all of those things that would be a big disappointment.

Overall Experience: My opinion based on my experience – Don’t waste your money here. Don’t trust them. This company deserves ZERO stars. Their "guarantee" means absolutely nothing. After a year and thousands of dollars, they have not delivered top-10 results for the keyword phrases we agreed upon – not even close. Instead, they have me showing up for obscure phrases that have no traffic. Or they have manipulated their reports to show results that I could not duplicate after using multiple stat programs, including the ones they use. They tried to find any loophole they could to refuse my refund. BUYER BEWARE. This company has shown itself to me to be unethical and of very poor quality. They did not deliver the guaranteed results, plain and simple. Direct Line Development – HIGHLY NOT recommended!

Overall Experience: Considering a website or SEO package from Direct Line? RUN AWAY NOW! Absolutely horrible company that will give every excuse in the book about why they cannot meet BASIC expectations. You'll be better off burning your money than feeling the pain and frustration of trying to get them to do what you hired them for. Too many complaints to list, but here's a few: -in the course of one year we've had three different project managers that have been fired or left the company...the new ones have no idea what the old ones did, so it's starting over again. -after paying over $45,000, we have a basic website (worse than the off the shelf version that we were paying $40 a month for), our SEO keywords have not moved an inch (some are placing worse), and they've cost us about tens of thousands of dollars and dozens of customers due to their inability to put together a basic functioning site. The list goes on and on. If you're still not convinced; read the reviews on Google and on Yelp carefully...you will notice that a majority of their positive reviews come from actual employees of the company (even the owner) reviewing as if they were a client. Small business is hard enough without having a company that you're paying a tens of thousands of dollars to actively working against you. STEER CLEAR!

Overall Experience: Anna was very supportive and informative throughout the entire process. There was frequent and clear communication every step of the way to keep me up-to-date on what was going on, and also asking for my feedback. The new website looks fantastic and is a tremendous improvement over the previous site. Thank you, Anna and all the team members, for a job well done.
