Capterra Glossary
Frequency
In simple terms, frequency is the rate at which something occurs over a period of time. In relation to a central processing unit (CPU), frequency refers to a computer processor’s operational clock cycles per second. The standard unit of frequency is Hertz (Hz). If an oscillating or varying electrical current completes one full cycle per second, the frequency is recorded as 1Hz.
What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Frequency
SMBs that offer telecommunications services use wireless networks to send data over radio frequencies. This allows them to provide their customers with services such as radio and television broadcasts, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and satellite communications. In the technology industry, measuring the frequency of a CPU helps computer engineers understand its processing speed, which is an essential part of developing new and improved technologies.
