BASIC (Beginnerʻs All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code)

BASIC stands for Beginner’s All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. It is a simple programming language that was developed by John Kemeny and Thomas Kurtz in the 1960s. BASIC opened the door for people who did not identify as mathematicians or scientists to write computer code and develop software programs. Today, BASIC is mainly used as a means of teaching the fundamentals of computer programming. However, many software development companies use more modern BASIC variants to program software features. For instance, Visual Basic is used by programmers to write executable files in a rapid development environment due to its easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI).

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About BASIC (Beginnerʻs All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code)

Often, small and midsize tutoring companies offer students that are a part of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs the opportunity to learn BASIC. BASIC tutoring sessions enable students to better understand and practice the fundamentals of coding so that they can later move on to develop software programs using more complex programming languages.
