Capterra Glossary

Bluetooth 4.0 (BT4.0)

Bluetooth itself refers to the communication method that allows for two devices to talk to each other without wires. Bluetooth 4.0 is a specific version of Bluetooth. It uses three specific functions: Classic Bluetooth, Bluetooth High Speed (HS) and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE). Its enhanced connectivity and low-energy protocol marked the most significant upgrades from the prior version. It has since been outclassed by subsequent versions, with the most modern one available now being BT5.3.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Bluetooth 4.0 (BT4.0)

In the early 2010s, any business that used Bluetooth for wireless connectivity or cell phones likely used Bluetooth 4.0. Bluetooth 4.0 allowed small businesses to use wireless headphones at a higher quality than previous versions. Today, small businesses still extensively use Bluetooth technology. However, most devices that used Bluetooth 4.0 have since been replaced.
