Dynamic Data Masking (DDM)

Capterra Glossary

Dynamic Data Masking (DDM)

Dynamic data masking (DDM) is a new technology that prevents unauthorized access to an organization's sensitive production data. DDM masks production data in a data stream so only authorized persons can view that data; however, it doesn't change the original production data. Users of this security technique configure data on designated database fields so unauthorized persons can't view sensitive data in query results.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Dynamic Data Masking (DDM)

DDM allows SMBs to keep production data in databases without fear of exposing that data to unauthorized parties. This technique can be more cost-effective than encrypting and decrypting data. It can also reduce insider threats, data breaches, and other types of cybercrime that can destroy a small business.
