Geostationary Satellite

A geostationary satellite, also called a geosat or geosynchronous satellite, is any satellite that moves in the same direction as the earth at the same rate. Although they're moving, these satellites appear to remain stationary. They orbit the earth at about 22,000 miles above the equator.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Geostationary Satellite

Previously reserved for large companies or agencies with extensive resources, smaller companies can now launch their own satellites and profit by offering communications services. Other benefits include opportunities in satellite design and manufacturing and providing or receiving broadband internet access in previously unserved remote areas. In addition, less expensive access to atmospheric data collection benefits SMBs involved in agriculture, weather-related disasters, construction, traffic, and other industries.
