Management Information Base
A management information base (MIB) is a text file describing a set of devices monitored on a network. These devices may include computers, routers, hubs, switches, and software. The purpose of the MIB is to translate numerical data into text that humans can read and understand.
What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Management Information Base
SMBs can use an MIB to manage networks through a remote monitor that reads device messages. MIBs can also be set up to issue alerts. For example, users can define all equipment with a temperature sensor in the MIB. If any equipment gets too hot, the MIB issues an alert. This functionality is beneficial for equipment that have a limited alarm system.
