Capterra Glossary
A register, also referred to as a processor register or CPU register, is a small memory storage area that is built into a computer’s central processing unit (CPU). A processor register temporarily stores storage addresses, instructions, and other types of computer data for a system’s CPU. This allows the CPU to quickly retrieve data and execute computer instructions, which improves the response speed of a computer system.
Small and midsize businesses that understand the value of performance, in regard to company computing devices, often purchase company workstations that feature high-performance CPUs. High-performance CPUs typically contain multiple architectural registers, which enable them to execute computing tasks at maximum efficiency. With a high-performance CPU, small and midsize organizations can easily facilitate complex computing tasks, such as data processing and video editing, without having to deal with extensive load times.
