Capterra Glossary
Virtual Tape Library (VTL)
A virtual tape library (VTL) is a system with a disk drive that acts as a physical tape drive or tape library. A VTL appears as a physical tape to the existing backup software even though the disk is completing the backup process. That allows the backup data to be written sequentially.
What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Virtual Tape Library (VTL)
VTLs can be beneficial for SMBs, as they are scalable and cost less than physical tape drives. VTLs can also improve recovery time if data goes missing during the backup process.
