Visitor Location Register (VLR)
A VLR, or Visitor Location Register, is a server that exists within cellular networks. Its purpose is to support roaming functionality when cellular networks are utilized outside of their home location register (HLR). This server ensures that a cellular device is able to maintain its full range of capabilities when it is roaming.

Although most SMBs aren’t aware of it, they may already rely on the use of a VLR when using devices to conduct business. For example, if a business call is made from a cellular device while out of town, it may be conducted using the VLR server.
