Capterra Glossary
Google Chrome OS is a Linux-based operating system owned by Google. Chrome OS is primarily used to run web applications such as Google Docs. Google Chrome OS is considered the offspring of the open source Chromium OS project, using the Google Chrome web browser as its forefront user interface. Google Chrome OS is installed on all Google computers, including the one of Googleʻs most popular devices, the Chromebook. This operating system is used by various companies due to its advanced features including advanced security protection, guest access, kiosk mode, and cloud-based computing capabilities.
Any small or midsize business that uses Chromebooks or Chrome devices in the workplace has encountered the Google Chrome operating system. Google Chrome OSʻs guest mode feature is optimal for organizations with limited budgets as it enables company employees to share devices to facilitate daily business operations. For instance, instead of having to buy multiple workstations for their company office, a small contracting firm could simply hand out one Chrome device to each of its contracting crews. Each contractor in a crew could use the Google Chrome OS guest mode feature to access the Chrome device to log their individual field notes. This eliminates the need to buy each contractor a Google device of their own, saving the small contracting firm money.
