TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (or TCP/IP) is a set of rules for the seven-layer Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) network model. In a network model, a "layer" is another word for an application. The U.S. Department of Defense developed the TCP/IP over 15 years, and it is now viewed as the unofficial standard for network and transport layers.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)

While it might sound complicated, TCP/IP is as simple as this: the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol allows internet-connected devices to communicate with other internet-connected devices. Small to midsize businesses depend on many different TCP/IP applications, including HTTP, FTP, and SMTP, to keep their business and technology up and running.
