"Amazingly Simple and A Timesaver"
Overall: VMS is our go to daily software for HOA management. It can be used for a variety of other platforms and VMS themselves actually use their own software for their own company. I trust the software.
Pros: The ability to customize reports to each individual client is very impacting to our services provided. The product is easy to use as a user and very straightforward. It is not a "flashy" software but it gets the job done. VMS integrates with our client's bank accounts and other software we use. Ask them to confirm but chances are, they integrate with your other software!
Cons: The customized report generation can be touchy. We had to contact their office to help get some custom letters made up due to changes in state law. Their office was very helpful and responsive throughout the process. It turned out that it was an error on their software preventing us from putting the letters exactly how we wanted them but this was corrected.
"Okay for a small/one-location company"
Overall: Overall, Village Management Software is a workhorse. It is dependable and able to handle a large volume of data (especially accounting transactions). It is not updated very often (once a year or less). It has a severely limited mobile capacity for our employee users; it is 2022! We depend on VMS for handling 1100 clients A/P, A/R, general accounting, and operations. It does a hearty and dependable job at handling those processes. Custom reports are better left to paying their support team for rather than trying to learn the database setup and create a report from components of it. Similarly, to query the database, you must know its structure as the software lacks a user interface to pull components into a query without having to know on which table the database stores that information. Glad to have something dependable for many years yet time for fully mobile software!
Pros: It is not difficult to learn to use. I train new users; they feel it is rather intuitive to use or to figure out if you do not know how to do somethings in it.
Cons: It has a severely limited mobile capacity for employees to access all records it holds. The client web access portal (for our own clients) which this software provides is outdated and limited in its ability to be customized. A query operation against the database is available yet must be preformed as a SQL query; an interface is needed through the user interface to peace together a query without having to know the SQL database structure and proper terminology.
"VMS Review"
Overall: Was very hard to learn and was not user friendly at all. The portals are very outdated.
Pros: VMS integrates well with other companies.
Cons: Not user friendly, majority of reports do not work, it takes hours to send a mass email and it holds up your computer while using, the compliance feature was very out dated and did not functionally make sense.
"Village Management Software "
Overall: Overall, VMS is great, except for the complication of figuring out how to do some things. This is better for a smaller company with small communities that don't require a lot of time when doing inspections.
Pros: VMS is great on the accounting end and has a great collections set up that makes collections easy.
Cons: It is not the most user friendly software. While there are some great features, it does take some time to get the setup figured out, and some of the reports are difficult to get set up. The compliance is also very slow and too many steps so it makes inspections take longer.
"Board member review of VMS"
Overall: The board, committees, and homeowners in our community are using VMS through our property management company. While VMS has lots of bells and whistles and is quite good on the accounting end, VMS has not been very responsive to issues involving fine committee members needing information from the system or to issues involving fines and compliance. Committee members are unable to look up violations by individual property address. Instead they must look through all of the violations for the community to find the homeowner's address in question. Our property manager says she has not gotten any resolution despite making almost a dozen phone calls to VMS. Also, fees for certified letters involving fines cannot be posted in the compliance module. According to VMS, any charge other than a fine would have to be posted manually. As a board member, I am not happy with the lack of responsiveness from VMS.
"Can never get a call back"
Cons: No one is there to help you when you need it. It is not user friendly at all. I would suggest TOPS or SenEarthCo.
"Terrible User Interface"
Pros: I really did not like a whole lot about the software.
Cons: Hard to navigate around while inside a module.
