Pros

The features I like best about StarChapter are: ease of administration, swiftness of launch, good value for your money. It's great for smaller associations.
The platform is great to use and the setup was fantastic. The team is always there to help with questions.
The admins really like the back end and the information it provides. Our members love the website and how easy it is to renew membership, sign up for classes and events.
It was affordable, easy to use, the initial set-up was simple (StarChapter is a HUGE help and does a great deal of the work), and we've found their support team to be very responsive and helpful.

Cons

I have a long list of complaints about this platform.
I didn't find anything that is missing from this software.
Email deliverability is very bad. Email formatting is difficult to use versus Constant Contact.
The options for website customization are quite limited, and the design options are very basic. Some functions also do not work well which can be aggravating.

"StarChapter for Non-Profit Organizations"

Overall: Starchapter has saved our organization a lot of money by reducing the subscriptions we had into one program. Setting up the website was easy to do with the SC support team, there were a few add-ons that we didn't anticipate that cost a little bit more, but we still saved hundreds by switching to StarChapter. Our organization is super excited to enhance our online presence with our members and sponsors through StarChapter!

Pros: StarChapter combines a lot of separate programs we previously used into one easy to access program. It manages email forwarders, displays sponsors logos on our website, and automatically updates based off of when the sponsor has paid through. StarChapter also allows us to setup email templates that are automatically sent to new or lapsed members which eliminates the need for our membership chair to constantly have to remember to check our rosters and compare them month to month.

Cons: The administration side of the website turned out to be a little more challenging than we originally expected. Some of the functions and website design aren't as intuitive as we would have liked and has required additional training for the less tech savvy members on our board.

Switched From: PayPal, WordPress, Eventbrite and Mailchimp

Reasons for Switching to StarChapter: It cost less for us to remove the four other subscriptions and condense into one. It also eliminated the need for four different logins, which can be hard to collect during board transitions.

"Good Choice for Non Profits"

Overall: Overall it has been good. The price was fair at setup, though the yearly fees have gone up already. Customer service is pretty helpful. There is still room for growth for them and I hope they will add features in the future.

Pros: The staff was very helpful migrating our old website to StarChapter. We use them for events, event registrations and membership in addition to our general website. The customer service usually responds with help in a day or two.

Cons: There are some things we wish it would do. It would be nice to have a schedule manager for our events. It would also be helpful if there was an easier way to include free membership in our registration for an event. The newsletter is adequate by not fantastic and I wish there was a way to email beyond our members/non members list occasionally. Some basic functionality, like sub-sub menu items would be helpful.

Switched From: Constant Contact, Weebly and Eventbrite

Reasons for Switching to StarChapter: Their website looked better than Weebly and we were able to put our newsletters, registration and website together in one package.

"I hate this system"

Overall: I hate it. I hate that everything you need help with seems like it will have a cost. There was just one day of training and then we were passed on. Training is useless if you aren't ready for it. Now that we are ready for it, it's extra.

Pros: It's nice to have everything in one place and have a nice looking website.

Cons: It is very confusing and not intuitive. There is no way to send a link that you get from a separate company. I just want to forward emails from vendors and I cannot do that easily.

"Great bang for your buck"

Overall: Solid experience with their team and product. The service help desk is very responsive.

Pros: Effective, easy to use, efficient tool. Can't do EVERYTHING, but you depending on what's valuable, you can make excellent use of the tools included. All in one spot. Vs. 6 different logins, 6 different tools, etc. Membership, website management, event registration, email marketing - simple.

Cons: We haven't found things that are glaringly bad. Having a student member component was not something we've solved long term. We'd love to have a student member category so students can sign up at a student rate, and right now we can't do that. It has to be done manually.

Reasons for Choosing StarChapter: All in one, plus recommendations from similar groups in our space

Switched From: Joomla

Reasons for Switching to StarChapter: Need for something more cost effective and manageable by volunteers.

"StarChapter = Success"

Pros: StarChapter is an easy and effective event management system. Entering meeting details is a breeze and downloading related reports. We also utilize StarChapter for membership management and website updates.

Cons: The backend for website management is a bit more complex that WordPress but having it integrated into one software is a nice touch.

Alternatives Considered: Cvent Event Management

Reasons for Choosing StarChapter: Cost of CVENT is unreasonable compared to StarChapter even though it has more features.
